The Elepe community in Igbogbo-Baiyeku LCDA, Lagos State, achieved a significant security milestone with the official commissioning of the Elepe Divisional Police Headquarters, a strategic project aimed at enhancing policing, safeguarding lives and property, and improving public safety across the Igbogbo–Ikorodu axis.

The commissioning ceremony drew political office holders, traditional rulers, security chiefs, and community stakeholders, reflecting a collective commitment to grassroots security development.

In his address, Rep. Babajimi Benson, Member of the House of Representatives for Ikorodu Federal Constituency and facilitator of the project, emphasized the critical importance of security, community development, and legacy.

He paid tribute to the late monarch of Elepe, acknowledging his selfless donation of land for the police headquarters and his unwavering support for the project during his lifetime. He noted that the commissioning represents a deliberate and strategic intervention to tackle longstanding security challenges in the Elepe axis.

He stressed that true community development cannot thrive in an environment of fear, and that the divisional headquarters offers a tangible solution to restoring confidence, order, and safety in the community.

Benson also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for his consistent support of nationwide security initiatives and announced concrete measures to further strengthen local security, including the donation of a Hilux patrol vehicle for improved police mobility and plans to enhance critical road infrastructure to facilitate faster emergency responses.

He concluded by assuring residents that the operational divisional headquarters would enable them to live peacefully, free from the fear of sudden criminal incidents, and reaffirmed his commitment to ongoing support for the police and security agencies.

The Executive Chairman of Igbogbo Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Omoba Hameed Aroyewun, in his welcome address, expressed appreciation to the people of Igbogbo, community leaders, and Honourable Babajimi Benson for their continuous support.

He emphasized that the newly commissioned facility is part of a proactive strategy to protect lives and property, declaring that criminal activities would not be tolerated.

The Chairman further assured residents that the police would operate professionally and in a community-friendly manner, urging residents to support law enforcement by promptly reporting crimes.

His Royal Majesty, Oba Abdulsemiu Orimadegun Kasali, Adeboruwa of Igbogbo Kingdom, expressed gratitude to Almighty God for the successful commissioning.

He commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Lagos State Government, and other honourable members for their efforts toward peace and security in the area, noting that a fully functional divisional police headquarters would deter criminal activities and foster peace within Elepe Kingdom and its environs.

Honourable Aro Moshood Abiodun, Member of the Lagos State House of Assembly for Ikorodu Constituency II, described the commissioning as a timely and critical intervention for the Elepe axis, which has long required a stronger security presence.

He congratulated the community, highlighting that residents can now sleep peacefully without the fear of impromptu criminal incidents.

Delivering the keynote address, the Executive Secretary of the Nigeria Police Trust Fund (NPTF) commended President Tinubu for his unwavering support of the Trust Fund and acknowledged the leadership of the Honourable Minister of Police Affairs and IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun in repositioning the Nigeria Police Force. He emphasized that the Elepe Divisional Police Headquarters, executed as a Special Intervention Project, provides modern and functional workspaces for officers, bridging infrastructure gaps and improving grassroots service delivery.

Special recognition was given to Honourable Babajimi Benson for his dedication to security in his constituency.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Dayo Akinbisehin of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, Yaba, urged residents to support the police, describing the project as a “vision of tranquility” for Elepe.

He assured that the divisional headquarters would lead to a significant reduction in criminal activities, reaffirming the police’s commitment to professional and diligent service.

The Area Commander, Ikorodu, also promised improved patrols, intelligence gathering, and faster responses to security concerns.

The establishment of the Elepe Divisional Police Headquarters signals a renewed commitment to peace, security, and community collaboration, with residents expressing optimism that the facility will enhance rapid response, reduce crime, and strengthen trust between the police and the community.
