Comrade Yusuf Azeezat Ideraoluwa has taken the mantle of leadership as the South-West Coordinator of the National Female Students Association of Nigeria (NFSAN), signaling a new phase of advocacy, service, and purposeful leadership for female students across the zone.

Speaking at her inauguration ceremony alongside other Executives, Comrade Yusuf described the moment as more than a change of leadership, but the beginning of a renewed commitment to service, responsibility, and collective progress for female students in the South-West. She emphasized that leadership, in her view, is not about position but about service to others.

She acknowledged the efforts of the outgoing South-West Coordinator and executives, noting that their dedication and sacrifices had laid a strong foundation for the new administration to build upon.

In her address, the new South-West Coordinator stressed that NFSAN is more than an organization, describing it as a movement, a safe space, and a strong voice for the girl child and female students at all levels. She reiterated her resolve to lead with inclusiveness, integrity, and accountability.

Comrade Yusuf outlined her vision to build a united, proactive, and impactful South-West zone where female students are empowered academically, socially, economically, and politically. She stated that her leadership would ensure that every voice matters and that advocacy is matched with concrete action.

She disclosed that her administration will focus on strengthening collaboration among all states in the South-West, capacity building and leadership development for female students, advocacy against gender-based violence and discrimination, promotion of female participation in governance, innovation, and entrepreneurship, and the creation of platforms for mentorship, visibility, and growth.

Addressing fellow executives and state coordinators, she called for teamwork, accountability, and urgency in delivering on the association’s mandate, noting that the expectations of female students across the region are high but achievable through collective effort. She also assured female students that NFSAN would continue to amplify their voices and create opportunities that support their development.

The South-West executive members who will serve alongside her include Suliyat Opeyemi Tijani as Financial Secretary; Akande Habeebat O. as Public Relations Officer; Adediran Adeola O. as Director of Socials; Umar Alaba Zaynab as Director of Welfare; and Akindoyeni Oluwaseyifunmi K. as General Secretary.

The event featured goodwill messages from key stakeholders. Adediran Esther Bosede, Representative of the Senior Special Assistant to the Ekiti State Governor on Student Affairs, noted that NFSAN’s scope extends beyond tertiary institutions to secondary and primary schools, urging the new executives to work diligently and serve with purpose rather than popularity.

Engr. Sheriff Lamidi advised the new leadership to lead with purpose, stressing that impactful leadership brings growth, mentorship, and lasting benefits to people and communities.

Amb Oladimeji Ibrahim, in his remarks, highlighted the challenges female students often face, including sexual harassment, bullying, intimidation, and gender-based discrimination.

He emphasized that passion, dedication, determination, and discipline are essential to overcoming these obstacles, citing former Finance Minister and global leader, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, as an example of disciplined and resilient female leadership in male-dominated spaces.
