The Executive Chairman of Kosofe Local Government, Barr. Moyosore Ogunlewe, on Monday concluded the third phase of the Kosofe Cares ₦100 Million Empowerment Scheme with the disbursement of ₦25 million to 250 widows at the Council Secretariat.

During the event, Barr. Ogunlewe described widows as economic agents, entrepreneurs, and pillars of family stability, reaffirming the administration’s belief in their capacity to contribute meaningfully to community growth. He noted that the financial support was not an act of charity but a recognition of their inherent value and resilience. The Chairman urged the beneficiaries to reinvest the funds wisely, expand their small businesses, and build sustainable income streams that will uplift both their households and the wider community. He further encouraged them to mentor younger women and serve as role models within their various neighbourhoods.

The widow-focused empowerment builds on previous phases of the Kosofe Cares programme, which earlier targeted the general public as well as artisans and traders. These stages collectively reflect the administration’s inclusive approach to economic development and its resolve to leave no demographic behind.

The final phase of the empowerment initiative, which will focus on youth development, is scheduled to hold later this month. Its completion will round off the landmark ₦100 million scheme, designed in alignment with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s grassroots development vision and Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s THEMES+ Agenda aimed at improving quality of life across Lagos State.
