The First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, CON, has been installed as Yeye Asiwaju Gbogbo Ile-Oodua by the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Ojaja II.

The installation took place on Sunday at Afewonro Park, Enuwa Square, within the Ooni’s Palace in Ile-Ife, during the grand finale of activities marking the monarch’s 10th Coronation Anniversary.

The Ooni described Senator Tinubu as a woman of great substance who remains connected to the culture and traditions of the Yoruba people.

He recalled her steadfast support over the past decade, noting that she played significant roles during pivotal moments of his reign. The monarch also acknowledged the collective approval of traditional rulers across Yorubaland for the title conferred on the First Lady.

He further appreciated the support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the contributions of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, who had been involved in earlier rites and ancestral activities linked to the throne.

The Ooni emphasized the First Lady’s consistent kindness, her role as a mother figure, and her positive impact on many communities.

In her remarks, Senator Oluremi Tinubu expressed deep gratitude to God, describing the honour as sacred and divinely aligned with her service to the nation.

She commended the Ooni for his visionary and progressive leadership, which she said has elevated global recognition for the Yoruba race.

She also appreciated the people of Ife for their loyalty and support for the Ooni throughout his decade of leadership.

The First Lady projected a message of hope, stating that the nation is entering a new phase marked by joy, honour, and restoration, with expectations that 2026 will bring renewed glory to all citizens.

Dignitaries, traditional rulers, cultural groups and well-wishers from across Nigeria and the Yoruba diaspora attended the ceremony, celebrating both the Ooni’s milestone anniversary and the elevation of the First Lady to one of the highest honours in Ile-Oodua.
