In a groundbreaking step for grassroots educational safety, the Executive Chairman of Ifako-Ijaiye Local Government Area Council, Prince Usman Akanbi Hamzat (UAH) FCPA, has launched a one-day intensive training on First Aid Emergency Preparedness and CPR Resuscitation for public schools within the council.

The programme, held under the “Safer Public School Initiative,” marks the first time in Nigeria’s local government history that such a globally recognized school-safety intervention is being executed at the council level. The initiative underscores Prince Hamzat’s commitment to transformative governance and the protection of pupils and teachers across the education system.

Teachers from all 17 public primary schools in Ifako-Ijaiye were trained on applying first aid responses during emergencies and administering CPR when necessary. The session was facilitated by a UK-trained cardiologist and renowned first aid expert, Dr. Tosin Osikoya, whose expertise elevated the training to international best-practice standards. The programme aligns with global safety benchmarks for schools, workplaces, homes, construction sites, and recreational areas worldwide.

Following the completion of the training, the council distributed fully equipped first aid boxes and digital sphygmomanometers to each public school. The provision of these essential tools is aimed at strengthening emergency readiness and preventing avoidable deaths among pupils and teaching staff.

As Ifako-Ijaiye continues to blaze the trail in innovative community-focused governance, the milestone reaffirms the council’s leadership role in raising safety standards and championing child protection across Nigeria.
