Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has called for a balance between technology and humanity in the digital era. She emphasized that humanity should lead, not technology, while addressing the 12th World Innovation Summit for Education (WISE) in Doha, Qatar.

Senator Tinubu noted that the world is rapidly advancing in technology, and it’s essential to ensure that human values are not lost in the process. “We should be the drivers of technology. Technology must lead; we should not remove human values from technology,” she said.

The First Lady praised Qatar’s success story in education and emphasized that no religion forbids girls from being educated. She stated that the federal government is committed to providing every Nigerian child with endless educational possibilities. “Everything begins with education. We are doing all we can as a government to advance the education sector,” she said.

Senator Tinubu also highlighted the importance of digital literacy in emerging economies like Nigeria, noting that it has both positive and negative impacts on young people. “We believe we would keep empowering the young ones in this area and they would do better,” she added.

The summit, attended by over 150,000 participants from around the world, focused on the theme “(link unavailable), Human values at the Heart of education.” Speakers emphasized the need to prioritize human values and ethics in the use of artificial intelligence, stressing that progress without human values would be worthless.

The chairperson of Qatar Foundation and host of the summit, Sheikha Moza Bint Nasser, also highlighted the importance of education in transforming lives and communities by connecting young people with new jobs.
