Princess Samiat Bada, Mayoress of Ikosi–Isheri Local Council Development Area on Thursday, November 13, 2025, formally launched the E-Birth Registration Programme at the Senator Oluremi Tinubu, Ikosi Primary Health Centre. The digital initiative is aimed at modernizing birth documentation and improving access to essential services for children across Lagos State.

At the flag-off ceremony, Mayoress revealed that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu had earlier in the day officially flagged off the state-wide rollout of the E-Birth Registration Programme at Lagos Island East LCDA, noting that the initiative represents a significant milestone that aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and the governor’s T.H.E.M.E.S+ development strategy, while demonstrating his leadership in driving innovation and strengthening grassroots development.

Princess Bada noted that digitizing birth registration is central to ensuring that no child is left behind in government planning for social services, healthcare, and education. She emphasized that accurate and accessible birth data is vital for long-term development and equitable distribution of resources.

According to the chairman, Ikosi–Isheri LCDA fully supports the state’s vision of a “Greater Lagos Rising,” driven by technology, improved service delivery, and inclusive growth.

She highlighted that the E-Birth Registration Programme reflects a new era of governance rooted in innovation, accountability, and compassion.

Princess Bada also commended Governor Sanwo-Olu for championing transformative initiatives across the state and acknowledged the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Rural Development for its coordination in making the programme a reality.

She reaffirmed her administration’s commitment to ensuring that every child within the LCDA is properly documented and recognized in government planning. “Together, we are building a Lagos where every birth is counted, every child is seen, and every hope is renewed,” she said.

The launch marks another step in Lagos State’s ongoing efforts to strengthen data-driven governance and improve service delivery at the grassroots level.

According to The Medical Officer of Health for Ikosi-Isheri Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Dr. Okunade Adebayo the initiative is designed to ensure that every child is registered at birth and included in the national database. This, he noted, will make it easier to monitor population data, improve service delivery, and maintain accurate national records from infancy.

He explained that registering children at birth allows their data to be securely stored and accessible anywhere in the world, giving them a lifelong digital identity.

The program, supported by the government, is aimed at simplifying the registration process for parents and promoting data efficiency across sectors such as healthcare, education, and social welfare.

The exercise has already received positive feedback from parents. One of the beneficiaries, Mrs. Christiana Mbah, described the initiative as a welcome development that makes it easier for parents to access essential documents like birth certificates and National Identification Numbers (NIN) for their children.

She encouraged other mothers, especially those with babies aged 0 to 12 months, to participate in the program.

On behalf of other Mothers, She expressed appreciation to the Chairman of Ikosi-Isheri LCDA for supporting the project, noting that the data capture initiative will be beneficial to both children and families in the long term.
