The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Southwest Zone, has bestowed two major awards on Sheriff Babatunde Lamidi in recognition of his exceptional contributions to engineering, education, and youth development across Nigeria.

Lamidi—an accomplished researcher, educator, author, and Director of Petroleum and Solid Minerals at the Lagos State Chapter of the National Youth Council of Nigeria—received the honours for Excellence in Engineering, Education, and Youth Empowerment and Distinguished Contribution to Engineering, Education, and Students’ Career Development.

His professional footprint spans groundbreaking engineering research, sustainable materials innovation, academic mentorship, and nationwide youth development initiatives. Through his “Lead and Mentor Educational Platform,” Lamidi has guided hundreds of students toward academic excellence, international scholarships, and successful transitions into research and graduate studies.

He is also widely regarded for championing youth participation in green technology, Nigeria’s energy transition—including the adoption of CNG—and innovative engineering solutions. His efforts in capacity building, policy advocacy, and engineering education research have earned him growing national recognition.

Expressing gratitude during the ceremony, Lamidi thanked NANS for the honour, stating that the awards further strengthen his commitment to supporting the next generation of scholars, researchers, and student leaders.

During the presentation, led by Comr. Nurudeen Adam and Comr. Azeez Akinbo Ogunyemi, NANS praised Lamidi as “one of Nigeria’s most dedicated youth-focused educators whose work continues to inspire academic excellence, innovation, and patriotic development.”

Comrade Azeez described him as a disciplined and student-oriented lecturer who has mentored numerous emerging leaders. Comr. Nurudeen added that Lamidi is “highly deserving of this recognition” and encouraged NANS to continue celebrating his contributions.
