Princess Samiat Abolanle Bada Mayoress of Ikosi–Isheri Local Council Development Area (LCDA), on Thursday, November 6, 2025, commissioned the New Mile 12 International Market (Phase II), describing the project as a major milestone in her administration’s drive to promote economic growth and improve the living standards of residents.

The event, held at the popular Mile 12 axis, marked the fourth day of a series of project inaugurations across the LCDA, under what the council boss referred to as the “Renewed Hope in Motion” initiative.

The newly completed phase of the international market is part of an ongoing three-phase redevelopment plan aimed at transforming Mile 12 into a modern commercial hub.

According to the council chairman, the market redevelopment project aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s T.H.E.M.E.S Plus vision, which emphasize infrastructure renewal, grassroots empowerment, and sustainable urban development.

Before the reconstruction, the Mile 12 market was overcrowded, disorganized, and unsafe. The Phase II redevelopment has introduced better facilities, improved road access, enhanced security, and a more organized layout for traders and customers.

The council boss noted that the transformation has already boosted business activity, improved traffic flow, and enhanced the general environment of the area.

The commissioning ceremony was attended by market leaders including the Iyaloja General of Mile 12, Alhaja Iyabo Ahmed; the Chairman of the Perishable Section, Alhaji Shehu Usman Sampan; and the Chairman of the Yam Sellers Association, Alhaji Dandama Shukura. The chairman commended their cooperation and support throughout the reconstruction process, noting that the project was completed peacefully and with the active participation of the traders.

Princess Bada, who described herself as “Omo Iya Olaja” a proud daughter of the market Leader highlighted the personal significance of the project, stating that it represents an emotional victory for hardworking market men and women whose resilience sustains the local economy.

She reiterated her administration’s commitment to making Ikosi–Isheri LCDA a model of urban renewal and community-driven progress, assuring residents that no community within the council area would be left behind in the ongoing development efforts.

Mayoress also expressed appreciation to President Tinubu and Governor Sanwo-Olu for their leadership and support, pledging that Ikosi–Isheri would continue to deliver visible results that reflect the Renewed Hope vision.

The commissioning of the New Mile 12 International Market (Phase II) precedes the grand finale of the council’s week-long series of project inaugurations scheduled for tomorrow.

She noted that before the reconstruction, the market environment was often flooded and unhygienic, making it difficult for traders and customers to access without wearing rain boots.

She added that environmental authorities frequently sealed off the market due to poor conditions — a challenge that has now been permanently resolved through the council’s intervention.

The market leader expressed deep appreciation to Princess Bada for her commitment to improving the welfare of market men and women in the area, describing the project as a reflection of her passion for grassroots development.

She also extended gratitude to Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for their continued support of initiatives that promote local economic growth.

Alhaja Ahmed prayed for divine blessings upon Princess Bada, acknowledging her leadership and genuine concern for the wellbeing of traders within Ikosi–Isheri LCDA.

The Chairman of the Perishable Section of the Mile 12 International Market, Alhaji Shehu Usman Sampan, described Princess Bada as a true grassroots politician who understands the needs of the people and responds to them without being told. He praised her for transforming the market into a modern trading environment that supports the daily activities of thousands of traders.

The market leader expressed gratitude to the Mayoress for her continuous support to the trading community, emphasizing that her achievements have strengthened the traders’ confidence in her leadership. He noted that the traders’ decision to re-elect her was based on their belief in her capacity to deliver more progress.

Alhaji Shehu Usman further stated that Princess Bada’s efforts have brought significant improvement to the Mile 12 market, adding that the successful completion of the second phase of the redevelopment project is a testament to her commitment. He expressed optimism that the third phase, when completed, would further enhance the market’s infrastructure and business potential.

The Chairman of the Yam Sellers Association at the Mile 12 International Market, Alhaji Dandama Shukura described Mayoress as an exemplary leader whose achievements surpass those of many of her counterparts across Lagos State.

He commended her for her commitment to grassroots development and for implementing projects that have directly improved the lives and businesses of traders in the market.

According to him, the council boss has demonstrated remarkable capacity, delivering initiatives that even surpass the efforts of many male leaders.
