
The Kosofe Local Government Area hosted the 2025 Spelling Bee Preliminary Competitions for public primary and secondary schools on Tuesday, 21st of October. The event, which featured participants from 18 primary schools and 14 secondary schools, aimed to promote academic excellence and identify talented young spellers.
In his keynote address, Mr. Akinyemi Abiona, Chief of Staff to the Executive Chairman, Barr. Moyosore Adedoyin Ogunlewe, emphasized the administration’s commitment to educational development. He commended the participants, teachers, and stakeholders for their support, noting that the administration will continue to invest in education.
The Head of Education and Library Services, Mr. Adedeji Owolabi, officially declared the competition open, welcoming participants, teachers, and guests. The Education Secretary, Mr. Babatunde Shoneye, praised the Executive Chairman for his administration’s efforts in promoting education in the local government area.
After a keen competition, the winners were announced. In the primary school category, Monday Joshua from Muslim Mission Primary School emerged first, followed by Okon Samuel from Orile Ifako Primary School in second place, and Maduke Allwell from Ojota Primary School in third place. In the secondary school category, Icha Marius-Jireh from Muslim Senior College took the top spot, followed by Musa Nimota from Muslim Senior College in second place, and Felix Goodluck from Ogudu Junior High School in third place.
The winners will represent Kosofe Local Government at the state level of the competition. The Executive Chairman’s representatives congratulated the winners and encouraged all participants to remain focused on their education.
The event concluded with the presentation of medals and prizes to the contestants.
