
The Igbogbo Day Planning Committee has officially unveiled the theme “Itanna Ògò” (The Shining Glory) and the commemorative Ankara fabric for the 2025 Igbogbo Day Celebration during a press conference held at the Adeboruwa Palace in Igbogbo.
The event marked the formal kickoff of preparations for the highly anticipated festival, which will run from November 20 to 30, 2025. This year’s celebration will spotlight key areas such as youth empowerment, education, cultural heritage, health awareness, career development, and grassroots community advancement, all aimed at fostering unity and progress within the Igbogbo community.
The event opened with a welcome address by the Public Relations Officer, Mr. Oshodi Adeyemi who highlighted the event of the day.
In his address, Mr. Jinodu outlined the committee’s strategic focus for the 2025 celebration prioritizing education and youth empowerment.
He emphasized the need to bridge the digital divide in the community by improving computer literacy and providing structured ICT training for students. “While many of our youths have access to mobile phones, far fewer have meaningful access to computers or digital education,” Jinodu noted.
Speaking on the theme “Itanna Ògò,” he described it as symbolic of a collective light that must continue to shine the light of knowledge, cultural identity, and grassroots development. “We aim to position Igbogbo as a model community where education and innovation are celebrated alongside tradition,” he added.
Mr. Jinodu revealed a detailed calendar of events for the celebration, promising a vibrant blend of cultural displays, educational initiatives, entertainment, community service, and spiritual reflection. Activities will kick off on Thursday, November 20, with an Iwure prayer session and Adeboruwa Jamz at Adeburuwa Palace. Friday, November 21 will feature a Jumat Service at the Igbogbo Central Mosque, followed by Public Service Day, Barbers’ Day, and a visit to an orphanage.
Saturday, November 22 will host the Igbogbo Carnival at Eleja Primary School. On Sunday, November 23, the community will hold a Luncheon with the Adeboruwa of Igbogbo, during which awards of excellence will be presented, Igbogbo Ambassadors (Season 3) will be inducted, and Elders Day will be observed.
Monday, November 24 is scheduled for Health Awareness Day, the final match of the Adeboruwa Football Competition, and an NGO Giveaway. On Tuesday, November 25, a vibrant Cultural Day will showcase performances by Pa Dankwo Cultural Group, Alapepe, Asa, Turupu, Igunuko, and Sogbeto.
Wednesday, November 26 will mark the conclusion of education-themed programs, including a quiz and debate competition, as well as the final of the Adeboruwa Basketball Competition. Thursday, November 27 will be Oloja Adeboruwa Day, featuring community development-focused activities, Artisan and Transporter’s Day, and a Youth Gala Night.
On Friday, November 28, a Career Guidance and Counselling session will be held. The first keynote address, titled “The Intersection of Film and Personal Identity,” will be delivered by actress Funke Akindele. The second topic, “Exploring Career Paths: Aligning Interests, Skills and Opportunities,” will be delivered by Coach Wale.
Saturday, November 29 will be the Grand Finale at Z.I.G.S., Igbogbo, followed by a Christian Thanksgiving Service on Sunday, November 30 at CAC on Bola Ahmed Tinubu Way, Igbogbo. The closing event is expected to draw prominent dignitaries and celebrities, including Funke Akindele and other notable guests.
The highlight of the day’s press conference was the official unveiling of the Ankara fabric for the 2025 Igbogbo Day Celebration. Announced by the Odòfin of Igbogbo, Chief F. Onasanya, the Ankara was presented as a vibrant emblem of unity and shared identity among Igbogbo indigenes. Designed to reflect the brilliance of “Itanna Ògò,” the fabric was revealed to enthusiastic applause and is now available for ₦6,000 at the Igbogbo Palace. The Planning Committee is encouraging all residents and supporters to purchase and wear the Ankara as a symbol of solidarity and cultural pride.
The Secretary to the Planning Committee assured attendees that this year’s edition will be more inclusive, engaging, and secure. He noted that arrangements are already in place with relevant security agencies to ensure the safety of all participants during the ten-day celebration.
In her closing remarks, Princess Basirat Banjoko the Council Leader of Igbogbo-Bayeku LCDA and the Vice Chairman of the Planning Committee expressed gratitude to community stakeholders, and supporters. She praised the unity and dedication of the planning team, reiterating that real progress comes from collaboration, not mere rhetoric.
The 2025 Igbogbo Day Celebration is shaping up to be a landmark event a fusion of tradition, innovation, and inspiration. Guided by the light of “Itanna Ògò,” the festival aims to honor the community’s heritage while paving the way for a brighter, more empowered future.
