The Executive Chairman of Lekki Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Engr. Rasak Bamidele Kasali has insisted that Aliko Dangote’s conglomerate must heed the cries of Lekki people and prioritize the welfare of the community. This demand was made during a meeting with a delegation from the Dangote team at the palace of the Onilekki of Lekki, Oba Aliasim Olumuyiwa Ogunbekun.

The meeting, which was attended by former Chairman of Lekki LCDA, Barr. Mukandasi Olaitan Ogidan, the Iyalode of Lekki LCDA, and other leaders, was aimed at addressing the concerns of the Lekki community regarding Dangote’s operations in the area. Engr. Kasali and the leaders emphasized that Dangote must first fulfill its past promises to Lekki communities before embarking on new projects in the LCDA.

The leaders also stressed the need for Dangote to support fishermen whose work is vital to the local economy and to address the plight of people displaced by ocean surges that have been wreaking havoc in the area. They insisted that industrial growth cannot come at the expense of the community’s well-being and that the challenges on ground must be addressed before any expansion takes place.

The meeting ended with a firm resolution that the communities must benefit directly from Dangote’s operations before any new projects can commence. The Lekki LCDA Chairman and the leaders made it clear that the welfare of the people must come first, and that Dangote’s promises must be backed by actions.

“We cannot continue to suffer while industrial growth is being pursued,” the leaders said. “The people need support, and the environment needs to be protected. We demand that Dangote prioritizes the welfare of Lekki people and addresses the challenges on ground before embarking on new projects.”
