
Residents of Ikorodu North Local Council Development Area (LCDA) yesterday, 13th of August, benefited from a free medical program organized in collaboration with the Lagos State Health District II at Losi Oba Primary Health Centre. The program aimed to provide essential healthcare services to the residents, promoting their overall wellbeing and health.
During the event, residents received free medical screening and treatment, including eye screening, high blood pressure checks, blood sugar tests, among others. They also had the opportunity to register for the Lagos State Ilera Eko health insurance scheme.
The Permanent Secretary of Health District II, Dr. Dayo Lajide, advised the residents of Ikorodu North to make use of the opportunity given to them to participate in the free medical screening and treatment. She explained that participants could go for free eye screening and get free glasses, check their high blood pressure, and have free blood sugar tests. They would also be opportuned to register for the Lagos State Ilera Eko scheme, which provides access to quality healthcare services, including doctor consultations, hospital admissions, surgeries, and prescribed medications, at an affordable premium.
The Mayor of Ikorodu North LCDA, Hon. Ameen Olawale Apanishile, expressed his appreciation to the Lagos State Ministry of Health, especially District II, for giving their LCDA the privilege to get free medical screening and treatment. He reiterated his administration’s collaboration and support for the health sector and promised to upgrade their health centers to a reasonable standard. During the program, some residents were tested and presented with free eyeglasses.

Speaking at the event, he reiterated his administration’s commitment to collaborating with the health sector and promised to upgrade the LCDA’s health centers to a reasonable standard.
Describing Ikorodu North LCDA as one of the largest in Lagos State, Hon. Apanishile highlighted the need to improve the existing 10 Primary Health Centres (PHCs) rather than building new ones. He noted that the PHC in Agbede was dilapidated due to poor construction and that his administration will bring it down, and build a standard one.
The Mayor also revealed plans to develop a new plan for all PHCs, with a focus on providing essential amenities like water and solar power. He cited the example of Odo Nla PHC, which has benefited from such improvements. Hon. Apanishile assured residents that his administration is working to provide a rest place for doctors and to ensure that PHCs operate 24 hours a day.
Within his 100-day office period, Hon. Apanishile promised to deliver on his promises, including upgrading the PHCs and ensuring quality healthcare services for residents. He expressed optimism that the partnership with the Lagos State Ministry of Health and other stakeholders would yield positive results for the LCDA’s healthcare sector.
