
The Legislative arm of Ikorodu West LCDA celebrated a significant milestone on July 25, 2025, with the presentation and signing of its Bye-Laws into law. The ceremony, led by the Council Leader Hon. Jessica Enitan-Oba, signifies a major step towards structured and responsive local governance.
Hon. Jessica Enitan-Oba emphasized the importance of governance being grounded in systems, laws, and policies that ensure fairness, inclusion, accountability, and sustainable development.
According to Hon. Enitan Jessica Oba, “Governance must go beyond promises and be grounded in systems, laws, and policies that ensure fairness, inclusion, accountability, and sustainable development.” She added that the newly signed Bye-Laws represent a month of careful deliberation, consultation, and a shared vision for a more structured and responsive local administration.
The Bye-Laws cover critical areas such as environmental management, public health, market regulation, community security and safety, child rights, and youth development. Specifically, they address issues like Child Rights and Gender-Based Violence, Registration of Street Names and Renewals, Registration of traffic and parking, and the prohibition of indiscriminate parking, among others.
By enacting these laws, the Ikorodu West LCDA aims to strengthen institutional capacity and empower communities to thrive within a framework of justice, order, and mutual respect. Hon. Enitan-Oba noted that “Local governance works best when it is people-centred, legally guided, and transparently implemented.”
Councillor Hon. Tejumaye Adeyanju Julius urged the community to adhere to the Bye-Laws, highlighting key areas and emphasizing the importance of law-abiding citizens.
The Executive Chairman of Ikorodu-West LCDA, Hon. Sulaimon Kazeem Olanrewaju (SKO), received the Bye-Laws and distributed copies to stakeholders, promoting a better understanding of local governance functions. He highlighted the administration’s achievements over the past four years, including significant infrastructure development, health upgrades, educational support, youth empowerment, and security enhancements.
Some of the notable projects and initiatives include the construction of ultra-modern roads such as Olayinka Jimbo Street, Landscaping and interlocking work at the Council Secretariat, Liberty Street, Davis Crescent, Apena Jimbo Street, and the renovation of the legislative building.
Additionally, the administration has constructed an Ultra-Modern Motor Park at Ogolonto, rehabilitated Taiwo Molajo Street, now known as Femson Drive, and Fela Ahmed Street, Bamidele Laditi Street. The Chairman also mentioned the grading of Sarah Olakunbi Street, Sholebo, Afolabi Ekiyoyo Street, Sholebo, and Abike Jokogbola Street.
In terms of administrative development, the administration has built a modern administrative complex to enhance productivity and provide a dedicated citizens’ feedback unit, including the renovation of the existing secretariat. A state-of-the-art event centre, known as the West End Event Centre, has been constructed to host international events, boost tourism, and empower local entrepreneurs.
The administration has also upgraded health facilities, including the total renovation of Majidun Primary Health Care Centre, renovations of Ori-Okuta PHC, and the Igboolomu Health Facility, which now provides 24-hour services for senior citizens and pregnant women. Other health initiatives include the flag-off and introduction of Human Papillomavirus (HPV) at Ipakodo Health Centre, refurbishment of Laboratory/Consulting Room by the Dredgers Association, and free medical check-ups and vaccination drives.
In education, the administration has distributed free JAMB/GCE forms to indigent students, renovated the dilapidated information UPE Primary School in Ajaguro, introduced the Annual Scrabble Competition and Spelling Bee, and provided 150,000 exercise books to primary schools.
The administration has also implemented youth empowerment programs, including providing a motorbike to a young person to promote entrepreneurship, skills acquisition training, and clearing the full payment of outstanding benefits for past political office holders. Other initiatives include mega empowerment programs, food distribution to 5,000 households, and cash relief to vulnerable families. The Chairman emphasized transparency and accountability in project execution, urging citizens to cooperate with the local government administration for sustainable development.
