In a heartfelt and historic session held on Thursday, July 23, 2025, the Legislative Council of Ikorodu North Local Council Development Area (LCDA) convened a special parliamentary sitting to formally mark the end of the 5th Legislative Council’s tenure and to honour the outgoing Executive Chairman, Dr. Adéọlá Adebisi Banjọ, for his sterling leadership and unwavering support over the years.

The emotionally charged session, which took place at the council’s legislative chamber, was presided over by the Leader of the House, Hon. Ayo Adekoya, and had in attendance several dignitaries including Otunba Olasunkanmi Tijani, APC LGA Chairman for Ikorodu North and Ikorodu Division APC Chairman; Hon. Olawale Ibrahim Apanishile, Vice Chairman and Chairman-elect of Ikorodu North LCDA; Mr. Abiodun Banjo, Chief of Staff to the outgoing Executive Chairman; Prince Niyi Odugbesi, Secretary to the Local Government; Supervisory Councillors; and the newly elected legislators who will form the next legislative council.

Each councillor took turns to reflect on their time in office, recounting memorable legislative experiences and paying glowing tributes to Dr. Banjọ. Many described the past years as deeply impactful, lauding the harmonious executive-legislative relationship fostered by the outgoing chairman. In her address, Hon. Ayo Adekoya, the Leader of the House, described Dr. Adéọlá Adebisi Banjọ as an exceptional leader whose trust in the legislative arm allowed for smooth and productive collaboration. She commended him for his consistent support and respect for the legislature, highlighting that their relationship was healthy, productive, and devoid of rancour.

Standing in for Dr. Banjọ, who was unavoidably absent, Hon. Olawale Ibrahim Apanishile, the Vice Chairman and incoming Executive Chairman, delivered a moving speech filled with admiration, gratitude, and brotherly affection. Describing Dr. Banjọ as his “boss, brother, and friend,” Hon. Apanishile recounted their eight-year journey together in providing progressive leadership for Ikorodu North LCDA. He acknowledged their joint efforts in transforming the council and expressed confidence that history would never forget the remarkable contributions of Dr. Banjọ to the growth and development of the area.

“Dr. Banjọ is not just a political leader; he’s a man of vision, sacrifice, and compassion,” Hon. Apanishile stated. “Our shared leadership over the years has brought so many landmark achievements to the people of Ikorodu North, and his name will remain etched in the annals of this council for generations to come.”

He also used the opportunity to appreciate the legislative council for honouring his outgoing boss and prayed for continued success and blessings in Dr. Banjọ’s future endeavours.

As the session drew to a close, emotions ran high as colleagues, friends, and admirers celebrated the end of a significant chapter in Ikorodu North LCDA’s political history. The atmosphere was one of gratitude, admiration, and reflection – a befitting send-off for a man whose leadership left an indelible mark on the local government landscape.

With his legacy firmly established and his contributions widely acknowledged, Dr. Adéọlá Adebisi Banjọ bows out as Executive Chairman of Ikorodu North LCDA with honour, admiration, and the heartfelt appreciation of a grateful council and community.
