
Imota General Hospital has made a significant stride in improving healthcare delivery with the commissioning of its General Outpatient Department, Accident Emergency Center, and Eye Care Centre. In line with its commitment to the community, the hospital also offers free healthcare services to residents, On Tuesday, 15th of July. This development marks a major milestone in the hospital’s journey to provide comprehensive medical care to the community.
The Medical Director of Imota General Hospital, Dr. Adenike Olanrewaju Omosan, reflected on her one-year anniversary as Medical Director, highlighting the hospital’s remarkable progress since she assumed office in July. Initially, the hospital faced several challenges, including limited diagnostic capabilities and restricted services. However, thanks to the support of committed stakeholders, the hospital has made substantial strides in expanding its services.
The hospital has set up a mini-laboratory, including a vibrant blood bank, and is currently working on establishing a state-of-the-art diagnostic center. Dr. Omosan expressed gratitude to stakeholders who have supported the hospital’s growth, including Rep. Babajimi Benson, wwho facilitated the main building they are using to the hospital, and the Ikorodu Division Peace Initiative, which donated a 14-seater bus.
The hospital has also expanded its services with the Eye Clinic, facilitated by One Sight Foundation and Women in Optometry Nigeria. Dr. Omosan outlined the hospital’s plans to further improve its services, including digitizing services, expanding diagnostics, and introducing physiotherapy and dental services.
Dr. Omosan expressed appreciation to the Health Service Commission for their support and the hospital’s team for their dedication and hard work. She noted that the commissioning of the new facilities marks a significant milestone in the hospital’s journey and looks forward to continued growth and development.
In his remarks, Rep. Babajimi Benson, Member of the House of Representatives for Ikorodu Federal Constituency, represented by Mrs. Monusrat Odumbo.
The facility represents a major milestone in the collective efforts to enhance healthcare delivery in Imota LCDA and beyond. Rep. Benson commended stakeholders, including medical professionals, engineers, and community leaders, particularly Ranodu of Imota, His Royal Majesty, Oba Dr. Mudashiru Ajibade Agoro.
Rep. Benson reaffirmed his commitment to championing initiatives prioritizing the well-being of the people, especially in health, education, empowerment, and infrastructure. He urged stakeholders to ensure the facility’s maintenance, utilization, and safeguarding for future generations.
The lawmaker congratulated the hospital management and staff, wishing the milestone marks the beginning of greater strides in healthcare delivery.
The Chairman of the Lagos Health Service Commission, Dr. Atinuke Onayiga, commended the Medical Director for the transformation and her determination. she also expressed pride in the Oba of Imota’s determination and support for the General Hospital Imota. She commended the monarch’s efforts, noting that development requires collective effort and individual contributions.
Dr. Onayiga emphasized that government is not solely responsible for development, but rather it is the collective effort of individuals and communities. She praised the Oba’s pressure to bring about positive change, citing the Bible’s instruction to “take possession of our possessions.” She noted that, as stated by the Medical Director, the people of Imota would no longer have to travel far to access quality healthcare, highlighting the hospital’s progress under the monarch’s support.
The Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Health Service Commission, Dr. Benjamin Eniayewun, applauded the progress made at Imota General Hospital, describing it as one of the fastest-growing hospitals in Lagos State.
Dr. Eniayewun thanked the Medical Director, Dr. Adenike, for her outstanding leadership and the former Medical Director for his great work over the years. He called on the community to support the hospital and its staff, emphasizing that collaborative efforts would be crucial to the hospital’s continued success. He expressed optimism about the hospital’s future, hoping that it would achieve even greater milestones with collective support.
The President of Women Ophthalmology of Nigeria, Dr. Ogechi Nwokedi, commended the Medical Director of Imota General Hospital for her visionary leadership. Nwokechi expressed delight in seeing the plans for the center come to fruition, aligning with the organization’s mission to provide quality, affordable, and accessible eye care to all, particularly in grassroots communities.
Dr. Nwokechi thanked the One Sight Foundation for their support in equipping the center and the community for accepting the initiative. She wishes the center excellence, hoping it will become a beacon of hope and healing for the people of Imota and the surrounding environment, and expressed gratitude on behalf of the Women Ophthalmologists in Nigeria.
Dr. Gift Omodiale of One Sight Acelot Restorical Foundation, expressed gratitude to the management of Imota General Hospital, Women Optometrists in Nigeria, and the Nigerian Optometric Association for their support in establishing the Imota Vision Center. She emphasized the importance of eye care, stating that “without vision, there’s no life” and highlighted the limitations that visual impairment can place on individuals and communities.
Dr. Omodiale praised the hospital’s leadership, particularly the CMD, Dr. Adenike Giwa, for their dedication and collaboration, which made the project possible. She noted that the center represents a shared commitment to making quality eye care accessible and believes that good vision brings hope and positive change to the community.
