As Mayor Dele Oshinowo’s tenure as Agboyi-Ketu LCDA Chairman draws to a close, Today, 8th of July, He delivered the Babatunde Braimoh Model Market, a modern market with over 340 shops, built through a Public-Private Partnership arrangement, as well as Thomas Laniyan Road, Okubadejo road, Abayomi Owoade road, and the Chief Stephen Oyedele Sports and Recreational Centre to the community. These are part of the 24 legacy projects his administration plans to commission, reaffirming his commitment to delivering lasting infrastructure and community development.

The Babatunde Braimoh Model Market, a modern facility with over 340 shops, was built through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) arrangement. Mayor Oshinowo explained that the market was named after the former local government chairman of Kosofe Local Government, whose house is located at the back of the market. The market’s construction was necessitated by the failure of the old market’s integrity test, which prompted the council to engage developers to build a new one.

“We are thinking about sustainability in our development, and this is why we keep up with modern infrastructure,” Mayor Oshinowo said. “This market has not been built around Lagos for a while, but you can see what we’re giving to our community. We want to give them something that will be sustainable.”

The market was commissioned by the Lagos State Speaker, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, and is part of the council’s legacy projects that will stand the test of time. Mayor Oshinowo emphasized that the commissioning of the market and other projects is not about fanfare but about letting people know what the government has done.

In addition to the market, the council delivered three roads with a network of about 1.750km and the Chief Stephen Oyedele Sports and Recreational Centre. Mayor Oshinowo revealed that the council has a total of 24 projects to commission, with five projects delivered on this day.

The Babatunde Braimoh Model Market is expected to boost economic activity in the local community, and the council has worked out arrangements with the developer for people to subscribe to the shops through mortgage or rent. Mayor Oshinowo urged the community to approach the developer and the council to know the best option for them.

As the council approaches the end of its tenure, Mayor Oshinowo expressed confidence in the council’s candidate, who is a strong contender and was part of the government. He assured that she will build on the council’s achievements and perform even better.

The delivery of these projects demonstrates the council’s commitment to giving back to the community and leaving a lasting legacy. Mayor Oshinowo emphasized that the government will serve the people to the last day of its office, and the projects commissioned will stand the test of time.

The Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, noted that this was his second visit to the area and expressed delight at the monumental projects being executed by Oshinowo’s administration. He urged the incoming chairman to surpass Oshinowo’s achievements if elected.

The Speaker paid tribute to the late Hon. Tunde Braimoh, a former Chairman of Kosofe Local Government and a member of the Lagos State House of Assembly, after whom the model market was named. Obasa described Braimoh as an outstanding lawmaker and eloquent speaker.

Obasa said, “Today, we have come to celebrate somebody. It serves as a lesson to leave a good life and do well, that whatever good you do, people will never forget. Do your best to relate to the people and serve the people.”

Obasa commended Oshinowo, his cabinet, and the legislators for their unity and collaboration, which have led to the successful execution of development projects in the area.

Former Lagos East Senator, Senator Gbenga B. Ashafa, said the projects showcased Oshinowo’s consistency in undertaking initiatives that truly matter to the people. He highlighted the significance of the projects, including the Babatunde Braimoh Model Market, roads, and Chief Stephen Oyedele Sports and Recreational Centre, saying they were testimonials of hope, enterprise, and community life.

He commended Oshinowo for upholding the progressive ideals of the All Progressives Congress (APC), prioritizing people-focused projects, and fostering inclusive growth. He urged other leaders within the local governments to draw inspiration from Oshinowo’s achievements and multiply the good works across the Senatorial District and beyond.

Ashafa emphasized the importance of collective efforts in building bridges of trust, opportunity, and shared prosperity, and expressed support for the Renewed Hope agenda of President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. “Let us multiply these good works across our Senatorial District and beyond, so that together we deepen the grassroots support for the Renewed Hope agenda,” he said.

Chief Mrs. Yetunde Arobieke, the first Executive Chairman of Agboyi-Ketu Local Council Development Area said this a massive transformation of the Mandela Market, now renamed Tunde Buraimoh Market. Arobieke described the transformation as “really massive” and lauded Oshinowo’s efforts in developing the market.

Adetola Oyedele-Abubakar, the APC Chairmanship candidate highlighted the transformation of the Mandela Market into the now modern market saying it will attract people to patronise it, the construction of the sports center, and the improvement of roads, among other infrastructure development of the led Government of Mayor Dele Oshinowo, stating that she will also be treading on the same path, delivering on infrastructure via development.

Hon. Ganiu Fatai, the All Progressives Congress (APC) Vice Chairmanship candidate for Agboyi-Ketu LCDA commended Mayor Dele Oshinowo’s administration for its remarkable achievements in infrastructure, education, housing, and other areas.

As the current Secretary to the Local Government, Fatai praised Oshinowo’s giant strides, expressing confidence that he and the Chairmanship candidate will build on the progress made so far.
