A coalition of youths under the Umbrella of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, Ikorodu North Local Branch and students of Lagos State University of Science and Technology has thrown their weight behind Hon. Ameen Olawale Apanishile as the APC Chairmanship candidate and his running mate, Hon. Matthew Adesanya, as the APC Vice Chairmanship candidate for the Chairmanship seat in the forthcoming 2025 Local Government Election in IkoroduNorthLCDA. The endorsement was made this afternoon where the youths and students pledged their support for the duo’s ambition.

Comr Alimi Lekan, Immediate past Chairman of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) Joint Campus Committee, Lagos State, expressed the group’s unwavering support for Apanishile’s chairmanship bid. “There is no where we are going than to support you for this chairmanship seat. Our teeming students are here in their numbers to pledge their support to your ambition,” he said.

The youths and students have made specific demands to Apanishile, including the appointment of a Special Assistant on Students Affairs, increased youth participation in governance, and employment and empowerment initiatives. Comrade Adams, Vice Chairman of NANS Lagos, requested that Apanishile appoint a Special Assistant on Students Affairs to ensure their voices are heard in his government. Comr Ayika Jackson, Coordinator of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, Ikorodu North Local Branch, demanded more youth involvement in governance and empowerment programs.

In response, Hon. Ameen Olawale Apanishile assured the youths and students that his administration would prioritize their needs and welfare. “You all have my manifesto with you, and you will see that I have plans for the youths. We will fulfill our promises, but you will also need to ensure you support and vote for us come July 12th,” he said. Apanishile also emphasized the importance of youth participation in governance, citing his own experience as a student leader. He encouraged the students and youths to strive for greatness, saying, “Some of you will be President, Senator, Governors, Council Chairmen, among others.”
