
Rep. Sesi Whingan, Member of the House of Representatives representing Badagry Federal Constituency, has implemented a comprehensive education support initiative that has impacted over 3,000 pupils and students across 75 schools. The program included the distribution of essential learning materials, commissioning of new school buildings, and the introduction of a free school transportation service.
During the commissioning ceremony, Rep. Whingan expressed hope that the event would serve as a source of inspiration and motivation for the young generation. He noted that he hoped the event would give the students hope and motivation to excel. He emphasized that the initiative was designed to build and honor a legacy where every child can thrive.
Rep. Whingan highlighted Badagry’s historic significance in the evolution of Nigerian education, recalling that Western education was first introduced in the area in 1843 by the Church Missionary Society. He stated that today, they stand on the shoulders of those early pioneers, adding another chapter to Badagry’s educational story.
The initiative included several educational projects, such as the construction of new classroom blocks, renovation of existing facilities, and provision of learning materials. Some of the notable projects included the construction of a six-classroom block at Mowo Community Secondary School, a classroom block at Anglican Primary School, Gbanko, and the renovation of 14 toilet units at Ansar-Ud-Deen Junior Grammar School.
Hon. Whingan introduced the “Sesi Whingan Badagry School Free Ride” initiative, deploying two buses to facilitate easy access to schools. This move addressed transportation challenges faced by students. Additionally, over 2,000 school sandals were provided for pupils at the primary and secondary levels, and learning materials, including math sets, calculators, biros, and exercise books, were distributed to 2,000 students.
The lawmaker emphasized that these projects were part of a larger vision to create inclusive, accessible, and supportive learning environments for children in Badagry.
He reaffirmed his commitment to educational development in the region, stating that the initiative was designed to ensure that no child is left behind and every learner is given the dignity, space, and tools to thrive.
Dr. Hakeem Babatunde Shittu, Chairman of the Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board (LASUBEB), praised the initiative, describing it as a seal of knowledge, empowerment, and opportunity. Mrs. Modinat Adebayo, Education Secretary for Badagry, commended Hon. Whingan’s consistent efforts, stating that they have significantly improved the educational landscape.
Students and teachers alike expressed gratitude for the initiative. Ganiyu Zainab, a pupil of Araromi Primary School, appreciated the initiative, saying it will go a long way in the academic session. Another student praised the school bus initiative, stating that it has helped ease their movement to school and reduced transportation costs.
The event was attended by notable figures, including royal fathers, political leaders, teachers, and educational organizations, who commended Hon. Whingan’s dedication to education. Hon. Samuel Sejoro, a former House of Representatives Member and political leader, praised Whingan’s proactive approach and urged Badagrians to support him for a second term.
