… Ogunleye Praises LASAA, Omo Daadaa Foundation for School Bag Initiative

The Lagos State Signage and Advertisement Agency (LASAA) and Omo Daadaa Foundation have brought their initiative to Anglican Primary School and Etunrenren Primary School in Ikorodu Constituency 1, distributing sustainable school bags made from repurposed flex materials and other essential educational materials to support pupils’ learning and development.
The Managing Director of LASAA, Prince Fatiu Akinolu, stated that the bags are made from flex materials commonly used for advertising and billboards, which are often discarded and contribute to environmental pollution. This initiative aims to promote sustainability and reduce waste in the environment.
Over 1,500 bags have already been distributed to seven schools, with more planned for the future. Prince Akinolu encouraged the public to bring any flex materials they come across to LASAA’s offices, including their Ikorodu office, where they will be repurposed into school bags and other useful items.
Hon. Ogunleye Gbolahan Adetokunbo, the member representing Ikorodu Constituency 1 in the Lagos State House of Assembly, expressed his gratitude to LASAA and Omo Daadaa Foundation, describing the initiative as “huge.” He also urged the Lagos State Government to introduce more extracurricular activities in schools, emphasizing that this would equip children with skills beyond reading and writing.
The lawmaker cited the success of Nigerian footballers as an example of the benefits of extracurricular activities in schools. He noted that many footballers developed their skills through playing soccer in primary and secondary schools, which ultimately led to their success.
Adetokunbo also announced that he had donated table tennis boards to two schools in his constituency, specifically two boards to Anglican Primary School and three to Etunrenren Primary School. He reiterated his appreciation to LASAA for their initiative and expressed hope that it would continue to grow.
Hon. Omoniyi Dada, the founder of Omo Daadaa Foundation, stated that the foundation focuses on education, which is very pivotal and critical to their mission. They aim to carry out at least three to five programs annually, but since partnering with LASAA on the school bag project, they have been able to consistently distribute bags almost every quarter.
Dada revealed that they have already distributed over 1,500 bags and are looking to do more. The initiative has not only supported education but has also created employment opportunities for youths who are involved in recycling the flex materials into school bags. Currently, over 20 people are employed in the process, from tailors to those who fix zips.
With the election season approaching, Dada expects to collect a large amount of flex materials from campaign banners, which will enable them to produce more bags. The foundation is targeting to distribute over 10,000 school bags by September, and they are counting on collaboration with local governments to achieve this goal.
