The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Lagos State Chapter, has expressed full support for young individuals vying for Chairmanship and Councillorship positions in the upcoming 2025 Local Government elections. The NYCN noted that youths across the state have enthusiastically taken advantage of the #NotTooYoungToRun law to contest for elective positions at the grassroots.
Speaking on behalf of the Youth Council, Engr. Adigun Ibrahim Olalekan, the Chairman of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, Lagos State Chapter stated that youth participation in politics and governance is crucial for achieving a more inclusive, innovative, and progressive society.
He emphasized that the future of governance lies in the hands of competent, visionary leaders who can bring fresh ideas and energy into the system. The 2025 LG polls present an opportunity for youths to demonstrate leadership capacity and commitment to grassroots development.
He urged all political parties to provide a level playing field for young aspirants and called on eligible voters, especially fellow youths, to actively support and vote for candidates who have shown dedication to the ideals of service, accountability, and community development.
The NYCN also tasks the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) to uphold its mandate and ensure free, fair, and credible elections. Engr. Adigun reiterated the Council’s commitment to continuously advocate for youth inclusion in governance and leadership across all sectors.
The Council will roll out sensitization and voter education programs to ensure massive youth participation and promote peaceful elections across the state, encouraging more young people to take bold steps toward public service.
