The Lagos State Government has highlighted the positive impact of the NG-CARES Social Transfer Delivery Platform, a program providing financial support to vulnerable citizens. Hon. Akinyemi Ajigbotafe, Commissioner for Wealth Creation and Employment, spoke at an interactive session with beneficiaries.

The program, launched in 2021, has enrolled and paid over 4,825 beneficiaries across various local government areas. These beneficiaries, mostly aged, chronically ill, persons with special needs, and urban poor, received monthly stipends of ₦10,000.

Hon. Ajigbotafe emphasized that the program demonstrates compassion in governance, restoring dignity and strengthening social cohesion. He noted its alignment with Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu’s THEME++ Agenda and global development targets, including the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The state plans to onboard 5,500 more beneficiaries, expanding the program to additional local government areas. Hon. Ajigbotafe praised the State Cash Transfer Unit and implementing partners for their dedication and collaboration.

In his welcome address, Permanent Secretary ESV Olayinka Wasiu highlighted the program’s achievements since its inception in 2021, including reaching over 4,825 beneficiaries across 14 local government areas. He noted that the program is set to onboard 5,500 more beneficiaries in its upcoming phase.

Wasiu commended the efforts of the State Cash Transfer Unit, delivery partners, and stakeholders, emphasizing the importance of collaboration and commitment to ensuring the program’s sustainability and impact.

The team thanked Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu for his visionary leadership and support for programs that improve the lives of vulnerable residents. They also appreciated Hon. Bankole Akinyemi Ajigbotafe, Commissioner for Wealth Creation and Employment, for his guidance and commitment to inclusive governance.

The unit acknowledged the contributions of various stakeholders, including the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Wealth Creation and Employment, State Steering Committee, State Coordinating Unit, delivery platforms, local government officials, and frontline workers.

Mrs. Orimoogunje emphasized the importance of continued collaboration and commitment to empowering lives, protecting the vulnerable, and building a more inclusive Lagos State. The event highlighted the program’s achievements and prepared for the next phase, NG-CARES 2.0.

She encouraged participants to engage in the session with purpose and honesty, looking towards making social transfers a springboard for dignity, inclusion, and economic independence.
