… As Senator Abiru Pledges ₦10 Million to benefit More Residents

Mayor Dele Oshinowo, Executive Chairman of Agboyi-Ketu LCDA, rolled out the fifth edition of the We-Lift empowerment program to support 1,500 residents with ₦50,000 each. The initiative aims to empower petty traders, helping them break free from financial constraints. Mayor Oshinowo stated that the initiative is to support our petty traders, enabling them to get out of their financial shackles.



Mayor Dele Oshinowo explained that a lot of the traders are operating with limited capital, often below ₦30,000, and that the additional ₦50,000 will significantly improve their stock and livelihood. He emphasized that the program’s goal is to support petty traders in improving their stock, livelihood, and ability to cater for their families.

The Chairman highlighted that the program has led to a significant 75% growth in the local economy, positively impacting petty traders and enabling them to save more and increase their stock. He noted that this growth is a direct result of the program’s effectiveness in promoting economic empowerment.

Mayor Dele Oshinowo assured that the initiative will persist until the end of their tenure, emphasizing the LCDA’s commitment to supporting the community. He revealed that Senator Abiru’s support of ₦10 million will benefit another 200 people, further expanding the program’s reach. He stressed the importance of using the funds judiciously and expressed his administration’s dedication to continuing the program.

Senator Adetokunbo Mukhail Abiru, representing Lagos East Senatorial District, congratulated Mayor Dele Oshinowo for his development initiatives and efforts to empower residents. He noted that the We-Lift empowerment program has supported over 3,000 residents so far, with 1,500 beneficiaries in the current edition.

Senator Abiru pledged an additional ₦10 million to benefit more residents, further expanding the program’s reach.

He commended the chairman for his commitment to supporting vulnerable members of society and expressed his delight in being part of the initiative. Senator Abiru encouraged beneficiaries to use the grant wisely, drawing inspiration from the story of Honorable Femi Saheed, who built a thriving business from humble beginnings. He prayed that the beneficiaries would be blessed and use the funds for the betterment of themselves and their community.

Hon. Yetunde Arobieke, former Chairman of Agboyi-Ketu LCDA, praised Mayor Dele Oshinowo’s efforts, saying, “₦50,000 is a lot of money, especially when you look at the class of people. Mayor, you’re doing a great job.” She emphasized that the grant is meant for individuals who will appreciate and utilize it effectively, advising beneficiaries to invest the funds in their businesses to drive growth and improve sales.

Hon. Femi Saheed, member of the Lagos State House of Assembly representing Kosofe Constituency 2, shared a personal anecdote to inspire beneficiaries. According to him, his entrepreneurial journey began with a small investment of ₦28,000 by getting a fridge, which he later sold for ₦40,000, earning him the nickname “Femi Cool”.

The Lawmaker emphasized the importance of starting small and using available resources wisely to build a thriving business. “This ₦50,000 is not a small money,” he advised, urging beneficiaries to utilize the grant effectively to improve their economic prospects.

Emmanuel Ojo, a businessman, expressed optimism about the ₦50,000 grant, stating that it will go a long way in supporting his business. He plans to invest the money and ensure it generates value and profit. Ojo emphasized the importance of starting small and making the most of available resources, noting that despising the day of little things would prevent one from seeing the day of greatness. With the grant, he is confident that he can make a profit by the special grace of God. He also expressed his appreciation to the Chairman and the board members, thanking them for their support and acknowledging the impact it will have on his business.

Another beneficiary, Abigail Olajide, a trader, thanked the Chairman for giving this huge opportunity and she plans to utilize the fund to expand her market by buying more goods, which she expects will lead to increased sales.
