Hon. Higara Al-Mubaraq Olalekan, Councillor representing Ward C2, and former Leader of the House in Ibeju-Lekki Local Government hosted the seventh edition of Annual Ramadan program to commemorate the memory of his late parents, Alhaji and Alhaja AbdulMalik Olatunji Igara.

In his address, Hon. Al-Mubaraq shared that this was driven by himself and his siblings to initiate this annual event after losing their parents at a young age, and sought a meaningful way to honor their memory.

The program featured a lecture by renowned Sheikh Abdulgafar, popularly known as Baba Lekki. Hon. Al-Mubaraq expressed his hope that residents would benefit from the Sheikh’s wisdom and guidance during the holy month of Ramadan.

Renowned Islamic scholar, Sheikh Murtadhoh Abdulgafar, delivered a thought-provoking lecture on the significance of gratitude in Islam. He stressed that gratitude is a fundamental aspect of faith and a means of attaining Allah’s pleasure.

Sheikh Abdulgafar quoted the Quran, saying, “And remember when your Lord proclaimed, ‘If you are grateful, I will surely increase you [in favor]…’ ” (Quran 14:7)

He explained that gratitude is not limited to verbal expressions, but also involves using the blessings and favors bestowed upon us in the right way. He emphasized that true gratitude is demonstrated by spending our resources and talents in the path of Allah.

Sheikh Abdulgafar also highlighted the importance of expressing gratitude to others when they do good deeds for us. He cited the Prophet Muhammad’s (peace be upon him) statement, “Whoever does not express gratitude to people, such person won’t be able to express gratitude to Almighty Allah” – emphasizing the interconnectedness of gratitude towards people and towards Allah.

The Sheikh’s lecture served as a poignant reminder of the need to cultivate gratitude in our daily lives. By recognizing and appreciating the blessings and favors of Allah, we can strengthen our faith and attain spiritual growth.

In conclusion, Sheikh Abdulgafar urged Muslims to make gratitude a integral part of their lives, saying, “Gratitude is the key to unlocking Allah’s blessings and favors. Let us strive to cultivate gratitude in our hearts and actions, and may Allah guide us on the path of righteousness.”

The event served as a testament to the Councillor’s commitment to his community and his desire to promote spiritual growth and development.
