Hon. Phillips Olubunmi Emmanuel, Councillor representing Ward F1 and Deputy Majority Leader of Surulere Local Government, honored the legacy of Engr. A.A Adeseye, alias Baba Amigo, as he hosted a Ramadan lecture and commissioned a borehole in his honor at Ojuelegba Road, Surulere, Lagos, on March 20th. Earlier in the day, Hon. Olubunmi and his team at Phillips Olubunmi Emmanuel Foundation gave back to the community by organizing a medical outreach, providing essential health services to numerous residents.

Hon. Phillips Olubunmi stated that Engineer A.A. Adeseye, also known as Amigo, is a great leader and father figure in Ward F1, Surulere, and Lagos State.

According to Hon. Emmanuel, he decided to celebrate Engineer Adeseye’s legacy because of the significant impact he had on his life and career, and Surulere at Large. He noted that Adeseye Baba son introduced him to “Baba Amigo,” who took him under his wing and supported him throughout his journey as a councillor. Hon. Emmanuel expressed his gratitude for Engineer Adeseye’s guidance and mentorship, saying, “He’s been there for me, morning, afternoon, day, and night.”

Hon. Emmanuel also acknowledged Engineer Adeseye’s legacy, stating that he has led a life worth emulating. To honor his memory, Hon. Emmanuel has initiated a project to provide water for the people of Ojuelegba Road, who currently lack access to this essential resource. He believes that this project will not only improve the lives of the community but also serve as a lasting tribute to Engineer Adeseye’s memory.



In his advice to the people of Surulere, Hon. Emmanuel urged them to give political office holders time to deliver on their promises. He emphasized that the local government is working hard to develop the area, citing improvements in hospitals, roads, and other infrastructure. He expressed his appreciation for the support of Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila the Chief of Staff to the President and the Local Government Chairman, Hon. Sulaimon Bamidele.

Imam Habibullah Yahya, Chief Imam of Magaji Central Mosque in Ikorodu, emphasized the importance of leadership and faith during a lecture on “Who is a Leader?”. He highlighted the key characteristics of a leader, including the tools and qualities necessary for effective leadership, drawing inspiration from the life of Baba Amigo, a renowned leader.

Imam Yahya encouraged the people of Surulere to emulate the examples set by their mentors, such as Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, who has made a positive impact in Surulere local government and the federation at large. He advised politicians to follow in Gbajabiamila’s footsteps, stressing that everyone can become a leader by doing so.

The Imam also offered words of advice to the rest of Nigeria, acknowledging the current hardship but urging people to have faith in God Almighty. He emphasized the importance of prayer and seeking guidance from Allah, quoting the Quran to reinforce his message.

As Ramadan draws to a close, Imam Yahya encouraged Muslims to continue on the path of righteousness, avoiding sinful behaviors and prioritizing their lives. He commended Hon. Phillips Olubunmi for remembering a great leader during the holy month of Ramadan.

Hon. Mayegun Moshood, Deputy Chairman of APC Lagos, represented Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, Lagos State Chairman of APC, he applauded Hon. Phillips Olubunmi for the initiative and thanked APC members for their loyalty.

He also acknowledged the contributions of Rt. Hon. Gbajabiamila in Surulere, Lagos State, and Nigeria. Mayegun expressed confidence that Surulere would deliver votes for APC in the upcoming local government elections. Additionally, he urged Hon. Olubunmi to support whoever succeeds him, ensuring continuity of the good work.

Mr. Taiwo Adeseye, son of Baba Amingo, thanked Hon. Olubunmi for the initiative, saying his father was a man who always cared for others. He recalled his father’s dedication to the party and the community, and appreciated the recognition.

Mrs. Kehinde Adeseye, Baba Amigo’s second daughter, praised Hon. Bunmi’s efforts, saying it’s a welcome gesture, given that her father dedicated over four decades of his life to Lagos State politics. Baba Amigo served as senatorial leader for Lagos Central and was a leader in Surulere Local Government before his passing.

Despite his contributions, Mrs. Adeseye noted that nothing had been done to immortalize her father’s legacy in Surulere Local Government until Hon. Bunmi’s initiative. She expressed her gratitude and prayed for Hon. Bunmi’s success, as well as the progress of Lagos State and Nigeria.

Hon. Wusu Shakiru, Assistant State Auditor for the APC in Lagos State and leader of Ward F1 emphasized the importance of celebrating leaders who have made a positive impact on their communities.

Baba Amigo’s legacy was honored through the provision of clean water to the community, symbolizing the gift of life. Hon. Shakiru noted that this gesture serves as an example of how to celebrate individuals who have touched lives and impacted their communities.

Hon. Afeez Kasunmu described Baba Amigo as a selfless leader and his benefactor, who always looked after other people’s children. He appreciated Hon. Olubunmi for honoring Baba Amigo’s memory.

Hon. Ganiat Alli Balogun, Supervisor for Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation in Surulere Local Government, urged people of Surulere to emulate this good example of Hon. Phillips Bunmi, that he done for their leader. She praised Hon. Bunmi’s efforts, saying it’s a big lesson, especially in memory of their late leader, Baba Amigo, who was known for his discipline and uprightness.

Hon. Balogun described Baba Amigo as a “fantastic man” who was a no-nonsense leader, and his legacy continues to inspire others.
