
Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has commissioned an 18-classroom block at Odogunyan Junior Grammar School in Ikorodu, reaffirming his administration’s dedication to strengthening educational infrastructure as a key driver of social and economic growth.
The Governor was represented by Dr. Nurudeen Yekinni Agbaje, Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Rural Development.
The commissioning of the newly constructed block of classrooms represents a critical step in the administration’s commitment to socio-economic development through education. Prior to this intervention, the school faced significant challenges, including dilapidated infrastructure and inadequate learning facilities. Today, this project stands as proof of the administration’s resolve to address these challenges and create a conducive learning environment.
Education remains a key pillar of the administration’s THEMES agenda. Similar projects are being commissioned across 13 other schools in Lagos State to ensure equitable access to quality education.
Governor Sanwo-Olu charged students to take full advantage of the new facility and strive for academic excellence. He also called on local leaders and residents of Ikorodu to take ownership of the project by ensuring its proper maintenance and protection.
The governor urged the elders, leaders, and residents of Ikorodu to protect, maintain, and ensure the project serves its purpose for generations to come.
Mrs. Anike Adekanye, TGPS District 2, expressed appreciation to the governor for his love for education, which is evident in his THEMES+ agenda. The governor had promised to provide a befitting building for the school, and today, the community has witnessed the result. The children are now learning in a conducive environment.
The officer in charge of the project from the Special Committee on Rehabilitation of Public Schools (SCRPS) highlighted the modern features of the new prototype school building. These features include:
– 40 Modern Toilets (20 per floor)
– Windproof and well-ventilated classrooms to enhance comfort
– A spacious school hall on the top floor, capable of accommodating 700 students for special events and examinations
– A smoke detector system for emergency response and safety
The school principal, Adeogo O.O, extended heartfelt appreciation to the governor for hearing their outcry and providing a befitting building for the students.
Baale of Odogunyan, Chief Ojuemoren Kamorudeen also expressed appreciation to the Governor for helping the community with the edifice.
Dignitaries in attendance included Hon. Gbolahan Ogunleye, Member representing Ikorodu Constituency I at the Lagos State House of Assembly; SSA to the Governor on Local Government and Rural Development, Mr. Babatunde Durojaiye; Mr. Adewusi Sulaimon, representing the Executive Chairman of Ikorodu North LCDA; Hon. Niyi Odugbesi, Secretary to the Local Government; Hon. Bola Adaramola, Councillor representing Odogunyan in Ikorodu North LCDA; and the Baale of Odogunyan, Chief Ojuemoren Kamorudeen.
