… CELEBRATES 10 YEARS OF ADULT LITERACY CLASS, AND MARKS ITS 10TH ANNIVERSARY


Ikorodu Diamond Lions Club, a humanitarian service organization, on Friday, February 28, 2025, commissioned the renovated classrooms at Methodist Primary School, Ikorodu. The event also featured the graduation ceremony of its Adult Literacy Class, which also marked 10 years of empowering adults in the community, and the celebration of the Adult Class 10th anniversary.

The commissioning of the renovated classrooms marked a significant milestone in the club’s efforts to improve education in the community. The project, which was undertaken by the club, aimed to provide a conducive learning environment for the pupils.

In her speech, the President of Ikorodu Diamond Lions Club, Lion Funmilola Dada, expressed her gratitude to members of the club and friends who had supported the project. She noted that the club’s mission was to serve humanity and make a positive impact in the community.

“We are proud to have completed this project, which will have a lasting impact on the education of our children,” Lion Funmilola Dada said. “These projects are testaments of our commitment to giving back to our society and upholding the principles of Lions International.”

The Adult Literacy Class, which marked 10 years of existence, has been a flagship project of the club. The program has empowered numerous adults in the community, providing them with literacy skills and a new lease on life.

The District Governor, Lion Folashade Shotomide, who was the guest of honor at the event, praised the Ikorodu Diamond Lions Club for its commitment to service and its impact on the community.

“I am impressed by the projects undertaken by this club, and I am proud to be associated with them,” Lion Folashade Shotomide said. “The renovation of the classrooms, the adult literacy program, and the celebration of the club’s 10th anniversary are all testaments of giving back to our society and Lions International.”

According to Lion Funmi Alabi, the project began in 2014/2015, during her tenure as the club President and that of Lion Engr. Laitan Onalaja as District Governor. She noted that over 400 learners have benefited from the program, with four successful graduation ceremonies held to date.

Lion Funmi emphasized that the Adult Literacy Project is particularly dear to the club’s heart, as it has had a profound impact on the lives of the adult learners who have graduated from the center. Many of these individuals have gone on to excel in their chosen vocations, a testament to the project’s enduring legacy.

The event was attended by other dignitaries, including the school administrators, community leaders, and members of the Lions Clubs International District 404A3.
