The Awori Welfare Association of Nigeria (AWAN) has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for appointing Dr. Kayode Opeifa, a former Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, as the new Chairman of the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC).
Chief Mohammed Ajibola Olagbaye, National President of AWAN, described the appointment as “gratifying” and a testament to Opeifa’s competence. Olagbaye noted that as an Awori son, Opeifa’s appointment is a source of pride for the association.
“We, members of the Awori Welfare Association of Nigeria (AWAN), received the news of the appointment of our son, Dr. Kayode Opeifa, as the new Chairman of the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC), with great joy,” Olagbaye said. “For us, it is great news, considering the fact that the new appointee, apart from being an Awori son, has acquired the requisite experience, having served as a Commissioner in charge of Transportation in Lagos, where he had the singular honor of reworking the transport architecture of the state.”
AWAN urged Opeifa to leverage his experience in transforming Lagos’ transportation system to revamp the country’s rail network. “We implore him to work tirelessly to rework the rail network, which remains critical to the country’s development,” Olagbaye said.
The association expressed confidence in Opeifa’s ability to justify the President’s confidence in him, given his track record in Lagos. They called on Opeifa to revisit the railway sector and make meaningful contributions to its development, which is key to the country’s growth.
By appointing Opeifa, President Tinubu has demonstrated his commitment to merit-based appointments and his confidence in the abilities of Nigerians from diverse backgrounds. AWAN praised the President for this wise decision and wished Opeifa success in his new role.
