In commemoration of Hon. Sulaimon Kazeem Olanrewaju’s 57th birthday, the SKO Scrabble Championship was held on Friday, January 3, 2025, as part of efforts to promote intellectual pursuits and recognize other global sports beyond football. The tournament saw Sulaimon Olumide Sobiwale emerge as the winner, taking home ₦200,000, while Oluwaseyi Peter Giwa and Afolayan Oluwanukunmi Abosede claimed the second and third positions, winning ₦100,000 and ₦50,000 respectively.

The Executive Chairman of Ikorodu West Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Hon. Sulaimon Kazeem Olanrewaju, reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to youth and sports development in the area.

He emphasized that his administration recognizes the importance of promoting diverse sports and games among young people.

“We are committed to developing the youth and sports sector in Ikorodu West, beyond just football,” he said. “We want to encourage our young people to explore other global competitive games, such as scrabble, which can provide them with opportunities for growth and development.”


Hon. Adelani Okunade, Supervisor for Youth and Sport, Ikorodu West LCDA, commended the Executive Chairman, Hon. Sulaimon Kazeem Olanrewaju, for coming up with this  scrabble tournament to mark his 57th birthday.

According to Hon. Okunade, the event is a unique initiative that has brought joy to the youths of Ikorodu, who are eager to participate in more intellectual and innovative activities.

As the first-ever scrabble tournament in the Ikorodu division, Hon. Okunade believes it will have a positive impact on the youths, promoting intellectual growth and development.

Hon. Yomi Shoderu, Special Adviser on Education, Ikorodu West LCDA, noted that such competitions have numerous benefits, including fostering unity among participants, improving cognitive skills, and showcasing talent.

He praised Hon. Sulaimon Kazeem Olanrewaju, Executive Chairman, Ikorodu West LCDA, for using his birthday celebration to promote intellectual pursuits.

Hon. Shoderu also encouraged youths in the community to strive for success, believe in themselves, and prepare for the future.

The tournament featured renowned scrabble expert, Mr. Saidi, African Scrabble Champion (2016/2017), who anchored the program.
