The Ikorodu North Local Council Development Area (LCDA) has successfully concluded its 2025 Budget Retreat, held on December 28, 2024. The two-day event brought together stakeholders, including legislators, executives, management, and staff members, to deliberate on the council’s fiscal policy for the upcoming year.

Mr. Rasak Olatubosun Osunsan, FCA, a renowned expert in finance and accounting, delivered a keynote address on “Revenue Generation” at the Ikorodu North LCDA 2025 Budget Retreat. In his address, Mr. Osunsan emphasized the importance of revenue generation for the council’s financial sustainability.

He identified various sources of revenue for local governments, including taxes, rates, and fees. Mr. Osunsan also highlighted the need for the council to explore alternative revenue streams, such as public-private partnerships and investment in infrastructure projects.

Furthermore, Mr. Osunsan stressed the importance of efficient revenue collection and management systems. He advised the council to implement effective measures to reduce revenue leakages and ensure transparency and accountability in its financial dealings.

Barrister Dr. Badejo delivered a thought-provoking address on “Budget Disciplines and Local Government Autonomy, Issues, Challenges, and Prospects.” In his address, Dr. Badejo examined the challenges facing local Governments in Nigeria, particularly in relation to budgeting and financial autonomy.

He stated that local governments need to be granted greater autonomy to manage their finances and make decisions on budgeting. Dr. Badejo also emphasized the importance of budget discipline and transparency in local government financial management.
