…. Call on stakeholders to see to restoration of electricity in Epe

The management committee of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (N.Y.C.N), Lagos East Senatorial District has called for a separation of the Department of Youth and Social Development from the current arrangement at the local government which houses Agric, Youth, Sport and Social Development. The essence is for efficiency and proper concentration on youth affairs at the grassroot level.

The youth leaders while commending, acknowledging and complimenting the appointment of youths into the various political offices in the state also called on the stakeholders in Epe to ensure that the electric power blackout that has been hampering the youth and other residents’ economic and social activities is resolved immediately.

The management committee which is empowered to meet at least quarterly to discuss issues and work on possible solutions comprises of all youth heads of LG/LCDAs and Voluntary Youth Organizations in the zone.
They expressed their position in a communique issued at the end of their meeting held at the secretariat of the Ikosi – Ejinrin Local Council Development Area (LCDA)

“The committee commended youth appointments in various political roles and also asked the state’s leadership to continue to enjoin stakeholders to prioritize young people in the coming LG poll in 2025.

“The committee called on the state leadership to intensify call for reform to separate the Department of Youth and Social Development from its current arrangement”.

Further more “the meeting reiterated the call on the state leadership to renew calls for the creation of a youth desk across state ministries and agencies to provide opportunities for young people.

“The committee committed to working with stakeholders to provide administrative support to youth leadership at the local branch levels in Lagos East”, the communique stated.

The committee thanked the Executive Chairman of Ikosi – Ejirin, Otunba-Akogun Wale Raji Anomo, for hosting the meeting, and the Abowa of Agbowa, His Royal Majesty, Oba Owolabi Saheed Momson for his royal blessing during the team visit.

The management committee oversees and supervises young people’s activities in the zone.
The youth council derives its statutory power from its constitution, National and State Youth Policies, and International Conventions.
