
The 5-Aside football tournament organized by Ayodeji Rilwan Tinubu, a Chairmanship Aspirant in Lagos Mainland Local Government, came to a thrilling conclusion on Sunday, 1st of December. The team from Bola Street, Ebute Meta East, emerged as the winner of the tournament, while the host team from Success team secured second place.
The tournament, which was part of the ART 25 Project, aimed to promote peace, unity, and togetherness among young people in the community. The event was well-attended, with over 300 young individuals from the community participating.
The winners and runners-up were presented with awards by the National Youth Leader of APC, Hon. Dayo Isreal, represented by his S.A Political, Hon. Ganiyu Olufemi Adewale, and Hon. Adetuga Ibrahim, Chairmanship Aspirant for Yaba LCDA.
The tournament was officially opened by Hon. Matti Eshinlokun, the APC Youth Leader in Lagos Central, with several notable figures in attendance, including the Councillor representing Iwaya Community, Hon. Shola Thomas, Comrade Ishola Agbodemu, and various community leaders.
In his speech, Ayodeji Rilwan Tinubu emphasized the importance of unity and togetherness, stating that sports is a universal language that speaks to peace.
He noted that sports have the power to break down barriers and promote peace, which is essential for the development of any community. He believes that by organizing a five-a-side football tournament, comprising street league teams from the community, he can promote grassroots development and provide a platform for young people to showcase their talents.
He stressed that his goal is to promote unity and peace in his community, and he believes that sports can play a key role in achieving this goal. He pointed out that many successful athletes were discovered on the streets, and he believes that his community has a lot of talented young people who can benefit from his initiative.
He noted that his commitment to promoting grassroots development through sports is a testament to his dedication to the well-being of his community. He stressed that he is committed to developing sports from the local level, not just looking at it from the top.
The event also saw the participation of other young aspirants from Lagos Mainland, such as Hon. Moshood Opeoluwa, Hon. Agbaje Oluwatosin, and Hon. Amodu Sheu. These aspirants seized the opportunity to promote peace and discourage violence among the youth. Ayodeji Tinubu emphasized the importance of inviting other aspirants to demonstrate that political rivals can work together as friends for the community’s betterment.
