The Lagos State Government has launched an innovative project to transform the incidental open space at Sabo-Ilepo Oba, along Itoikin Road, into a vibrant eco-friendly hub.


To transform the incidental open space into an eco-friendly, sustainable, inclusive, safe, resilient, and creatively finished hub where people can recreate and enjoy in a secure and healthy atmosphere, this was revealed during the stakeholders meeting at Ikorodu North LCDA Hall, yesterday 20th of November.

According to Tpl. Daisi Osho, General Manager of LASPEMA. He said The initiative aims to transform the area into a model of sustainability, livability, and economic vitality.

Tpl. Daisi Osho stated that the project is a direct response to the long-standing pressure from illustrious sons of Ikorodu town to address the area’s myriad challenges. “This is the kind of development we’ve been looking forward to,” Osho said. “We’re committed to making sure that the misuse, abuse, and disorderliness in the area are eradicated.”

As outlined by Tpl. Daisi Osho, the project seeks to tackle several pressing issues plaguing the area, including insecurity, poor waste management, and transportation challenges. To address these issues, LASPEMA will implement measures such as improved lighting and surveillance, coordination of waste collection and disposal through the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA), and enhancement of pedestrian and vehicular movement.

Tpl. Daisi Osho emphasized that the project will feature a multi-agency approach, with the presence of a police post, LASEMA and LASAMBUS units, and a healthcare center. The healthcare center will provide primary healthcare services, immunization, health education, and vital checks, aligning with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s Team Plus agenda.

According to Tpl. Daisi Osho, “We’re committed to deepening healthcare services, ensuring that our people have access to quality healthcare.” The project promises numerous benefits to residents, including improved quality of life, enhanced economic opportunities, access to healthcare services, and reduced crime rates.

Tpl. Daisi Osho concluded that by addressing the unique challenges of Sabo-Ilepo Oba, LASPEMA aims to create a model for urban renewal that can be replicated across Lagos State, promoting a more sustainable, livable, and prosperous future for all residents.

Dr. Olumide Oluyinka, Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development in Lagos State, has announced an urban renewal project aimed at transforming the state into a model of sustainability and livability. The initiative seeks to educate the public about the roles and functions of the agency responsible for beautification and orderliness in the state.

According to Dr. Oluyinka, the project is driven by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s passion for improving the state of affairs in Lagos. “The onus is on us to inform residents of their roles and responsibilities in utilizing open spaces,” Dr. Oluyinka emphasized.

The project’s primary objective is to change the face of the environment, positioning Lagos alongside global cities like New York, London, and Dubai. Achieving this vision requires a collective effort from both the Government and the people.


Dr. Oluyinka stressed the importance of cooperation between federal, state, and local governments in achieving this vision, as advocated by President Tinubu. By working together, Lagos State can become a model for urban renewal and sustainable development.

Builder Deola Banjo, Executive Chairman of Ikorodu North Local Council Development Area (LCDA), stated the plans to transform Sabo-Ilepo Oba’s incidental space into a vibrant hub. The goal is to curb criminal activities and create a beautiful gateway to the LCDA.

Banjo expressed gratitude to the Lagos State Planning and Environmental Monitoring Authority (LASPEMA) and the Lagos Ministry of Physical Planning for their vision. He emphasized the importance of full cooperation from residents, who have already shown willingness to partner with the government.

Dr. Nurudeen Yekini Agbaje, Special Adviser to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Rural Development, has expressed optimism about the Government’s plan to transform Ikorodu Division into a semi-urban developed area. This holistic planning initiative is designed to cater to the needs of today, tomorrow, and the future.

Dr. Agbaje emphasized that the plan has considered both present and future advantages, making it a comprehensive approach to development. The project’s beautiful design and layout, showcased in diagrams, demonstrate the government’s commitment to creating a thriving community.

When asked about his confidence in the strategy’s success, Dr. Agbaje pointed to the plan’s clear direction and navigation. He believes that with this plan in place, the local council chairman will have a clear roadmap to follow, ensuring seamless progress toward achieving the desired autonomy.

Former Lagos State Head of Service, Prince Adeseye Ogunlewe, expressed his commitment to the development of Ikorodu Division, citing his lifelong dedication to public service in the state. “I feel committed, not just as an indigene of Ikorodu Division, but as someone who has spent most of my life serving Lagos State,” he stated.

As an ambassador of the ruling party in Lagos State and Nigeria, Prince Ogunlewe welcomed the opportunity to discuss the division’s development with the community of Ikorodu North LCDA.

He acknowledged the location in question has been a concern for those who understand development, having received requests for approval to build in the area.

Otunba Olasunkanmi Tijani, Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Ikorodu Division, applauded the proposed transformation of Sabo, describing it as a “great improvement” to the local government’s gateway.

Tijani emphasized that the transformation is long overdue, stating, “If you pass that area around 7 or 8 p.m., you will be highly disappointed. That could still be part of Lagos? You will ask yourself that this cannot be.” However, he acknowledged that the Government cannot be everywhere at once, and it’s now time to put the place in order. He appreciated the Lagos State Government for this move.

In attendance were the Executives, Legislative Arm, Management of Ikorodu North LCDA, CDC/CDAs, Road Transporters, Arewa, Baales among other stakeholders.
