The Laulat Memorial Foundation celebrated its fourth anniversary in a beautiful display of community service and compassion, hosting a successful eye screening program at the Oba Adeboruwa Palace in Igbogbo on November 8, 2024. This incredible initiative, led by founder Hon. Prince Olayiwola Oyedele Shotomiwa, honored the memory of Late Pa Thompson Oke Sotomiwa under the theme “Jigi Oluowo.”
The program began with an opening prayer by Bishop Rt. Toyi M.I of the United African Methodist Church, setting a solemn yet hopeful tone. The screening was thoughtfully divided into two segments: one for young pupils and another for adults, ensuring all ages were cared for.
An impressive 122 participants benefited from the program, including 55 school pupils, 60 adults, and 7 foundation members. Initially conceived to support two albino pupils, Aminat Ishola and Rahmon Ayuba, with vision impairments, the program expanded to provide essential eye care to many more in Igbogbo.
Obadare Oshikoya, President of the foundation, kicked off the event with inspiring remarks, shedding light on the humble beginnings of their initiative. “It all started with two kids with albinism,” he shared, highlighting the foundation’s initial focus on supporting these exceptional children. However, their vision soon expanded to encompass a broader demographic.
The foundation’s journey commenced with providing essential resources to two children with albinism, recognizing the unique challenges they faced. As the foundation grew, so did its reach. They extended their support to primary school pupils, aiming to bridge educational gaps and foster inclusivity. Further expanding their scope, the foundation now also caters to the needs of the elderly, demonstrating their commitment to community-wide empowerment.
Both Aminat and Rahmon, recipients of educational scholarships from the foundation, received vital eye care to thrive in their studies and daily lives. The event featured an inspiring address by Chief Imam Alh. Lukman Abdul Rasaq, highlighting the importance of community initiatives.
Mrs. B.B. Mustapha delivered a heartfelt vote of thanks, acknowledging Prince Shotomiwa’s commitment to Igbogbo’s welfare. The foundation’s Assistant General Secretary, Sanni O. Sheriff, thanked supporters for their cooperation and commitment to the foundation’s mission.
