In a heartwarming display of empathy and community spirit, the Women of Substance Association recently provided essential educational support to vulnerable pupils across six local councils in Ikorodu Division.

The association, comprising accomplished women and professionals, visited 12 selected schools in Ijede, Imota, Ipakodo, Owode-Ibeshe, Erunwen, Igbogbo, and other interior communities. During their two-day outreach on Wednesday and Thursday, they distributed notebooks, school uniforms, and school sandals to deserving pupils.

According to the President of Women of Substance Association, Hon. Adebimpe Akinshola, the initiative aimed to alleviate the financial burden on families. “Challenges are common, but finance is the major challenge confronting the whole world, including Nigeria,” she noted. “This underscores the need for everyone to be their brothers’ keepers.”

In each of the visited schools, 15 newly sewn school uniforms and five exercise books were presented to beneficiaries, primarily pupils from Kindergarten to Primary Six. The association’s efforts were well-received by school administrators, who expressed profound gratitude for the generous donations.

“We really appreciate the Women of Substance Association for this donation to our children,” said Mrs. Janet Idowu, Headmistress of Anglican Primary School, Ijede. “It will go a long way toward enhancing education in our school.” The beneficiaries were students from the Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCS) class and Primary One.

Similarly, Mrs. Alonge Adenike, School Manager of Methodist Primary School, Oke Eletu, praised the association. “I appreciate them for this kind gesture. They are good mothers. May God continue to give them wisdom to support these children.”

The Women of Substance Association has a broader mandate to positively impact various segments of the community, including students, women, single parents, widows, and young people. Notably, the association has donated sewing machines to the Vocational Training Center at Etunrere, Ikorodu, empowering individuals with practical skills.

Hon. Akinshola, a former member of the Lagos State House of Assembly, acknowledged the invaluable support of the association’s Patron, High Chief Adewunmi Ogunsanya (SAN), Odofin of Ikorodu Kingdom.

Representatives of the Women of Substance Association, including Secretary Mrs. Laide Adebiyi, Chairman of the Project Committee Mrs. Kalesanwo Kemi, and Secretary of the Project Committee Mrs. Aroyewun Toyin, were present during the distribution exercise.

In appreciation of their goodwill, Methodist Primary School, Oke-Eletu, presented a Certificate of Commendation to the Women of Substance Association.
