The 2003 alumni set of Ikorodu High School donated essential infrastructure to their alma mater, revolutionizing the learning environment for Junior Secondary School students. The donation, made by the Ikorodu High School Alumni Association 1997/2003 set, includes 20 sets of 3-seater chairs, desks, and a marker board, as well as critical repairs to classroom ceilings and flooring.
According to Sulaimon Mojeed-Sanni, the Alumni President, represented by Vice President Modupe Isaac-Solate, the association felt compelled to act due to the deplorable conditions facing the students. “We’re proud to support our alma mater, but it’s disheartening to see students suffering in poor conditions. For too long, these young students have been forced to sit on bricks, wrappers, and even the bare floor to take classes,” Isaac-Solate stated.
Isaac-Solate emphasized that the association’s members sacrificed despite economic challenges to support the school. “It’s inconceivable that, in the 21st century, children in a city with an annual budget of over 2 trillion naira and revenue generation of over 800 billion naira are learning in such degrading conditions,” she added.
The donation has transformed the Junior Secondary School section, replacing broken floors, damaged ceilings, and inadequate seating that forced students to sit on the floor. Atinuke Samuel, the General Secretary of the association, encouraged the students to maintain the donated desks and newly repaired ceiling to encourage further support.
Mrs. Sanni, the Junior School Principal and a former Home Economics teacher during the alumni’s time as students, expressed her gratitude. “I want to appreciate each one of you. Despite the situation in the country, you still give back to your alma mater. Kudos to all of you.”
This donation is not the first gesture from the alumni group. Three years ago, the same alumni set donated a generator to the senior section of Ikorodu High School.
Other attendees at the donation ceremony included Ajayi Fehintoluwa, the Public Relations Officer of the association, Kehinde Badmus, the Treasurer, Bose Ilesanmi, and other members of the alumni association.
