The Mayor of Isolo, Olasoju Adebayo has further demonstrated his resolve to rid the council area of blindness as the second batch of cataract/pterygium patients diagnosed during the World Sight Day commemorative outreach have undergone corrective surgery to restore their sight on the bill of the council.
The Olasoju Adebayo-led administration of Isolo LCDA had partnered with ‘The Eye Doctors’ to have an outreach held on 7th September, 2024 where an amazingly large number out of the over one thousand attendees screened were listed for remedial surgery while others benefited medications, reading glasses etc.
The first and second batches had the surgery successfully performed on them at ‘The Eye Doctors’ facility on Victoria Island on 19th and 30th October respectively with subsequent operations slated to run through December according to the council’s Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Ann Okonma.
Speaking on the programโs impact, Council Chairman, Olasoju Adebayo highlighted the importance of maintaining health support through strong partnerships with medical organizations. He emphasized that sustaining these initiatives is crucial to the long-term well-being of residents.
His words: “Our administration places a premium on constituent’s health and this is just one of the many strives we have in the pipeline. We are open to partnerships with more organisations/service clubs that share our vision to ensure that we sustainably make life more abundant for our people” Olasoju said.
Beneficiaries expressed gratitude to the council chairman, commending his administrationโs commitment to community health by saving them from blindness given the high cost of the surgery that has seen them living partially blind before now.
