In a bid to ensure inclusive governance and community-driven development, Ikorodu West LCDA held a stakeholder forum for Wards D and C on Monday, 28th of October, seeking input for the 2025 budget.

Hon. Sulaimon Kazeem Olanrewaju, Executive Chairman of Ikorodu West Local Council Development Area (LCDA) represented by the Secretary to the Local Government Hon. Femi Anifowoshe, The chairman highlighted significant strides made by the Government in enhancing infrastructure and providing palliatives to residents.

According to the Chairman, infrastructure development remains a top priority for his administration. “Infrastructure is essential for the economic and social development of any community,” he stated. “Our local government has taken deliberate steps to enhance infrastructure in Ikorodu West, focusing on areas that will have the most significant impact on our residents.”

He cited three key areas of focus: road rehabilitation and construction, health infrastructure, and waste management and sanitation. “We have prioritized the rehabilitation of major roads in Ward D and Ward C, despite limited resources,” he explained. “This effort not only facilitates easier transportation but also enhances the overall quality of life for our residents.” Additionally, health centers have been renovated and equipped to provide better healthcare services.

To address economic challenges faced by residents, Olanrewaju’s administration has implemented various palliative measures. “We understand that many residents face economic difficulties, particularly in light of recent global events,” he acknowledged. “To combat hunger, we have initiated food distribution programs targeting vulnerable families.” Skills acquisition and empowerment programs have also been launched to equip youth and women with training and skills for self-sufficiency.

Furthermore, the chairman emphasized his administration’s commitment to health and wellness initiatives. “We have organized health awareness campaigns, free medical check-ups, and vaccination drives to ensure the well-being of our community,” he said.

He acknowledged the challenges posed by limited resources but assured stakeholders of his administration’s transparency and accountability. “Every project we undertake is carefully evaluated to ensure that it meets the needs of our community and delivers value for money,” he stated.

As the 2025 budget planning phase approaches, the chairman urged stakeholders to provide feedback. “Your input is invaluable,” he emphasized. “We want to hear your voices, understand your needs, and prioritize projects that truly matter to our community.” Olanrewaju encouraged stakeholders to identify essential infrastructure improvements and services needed, engaging in constructive dialogue to foster a sense of ownership and partnership in community development.

In conclusion, the chairman expressed gratitude for stakeholders’ engagement and commitment. “Together, we can overcome the challenges we face and pave the way for a brighter future,” he said. “As we move forward, let us continue to work in partnership, fostering unity and progress in our beloved community.”

According to Mr. Nurudeen Tobun, Council Manager of Ikorodu West LCDA, this year’s forum marks a departure from previous practices where all stakeholders were invited to the council chambers. Instead, the council will visit each ward to gather firsthand feedback from residents.

Mr. Temitayo Yusuf, Chairman of Ward D United CDA, expressed gratitude to the Executive Chairman and the Head of Department of Planning, Budget, Research, and Statistics for recognizing Ward D’s needs.
He reads out Key Demands from Ward D

– Infrastructure: Rehabilitation of roads, including Shakiru Oyekan CDA, lyana Alfa, Ojuoro Phase 2, and United Homes CDA, among others.
– Security: Installation of solar lights and CCTV cameras to combat crime and kidnapping in areas like Cole estate, Ojuoro Phase 2, and Abule Alfa axis ¹.
– Flood Control: Construction and maintenance of canals to mitigate flooding caused by the Oyan dam in areas like Oshintek 1 and 2, Abundant Grace land CDA, and Cole estate.
– Health: Upgrading of the Ori-okuta health facility to provide 24-hour services for senior citizens and pregnant women.

Stakeholders of Ward C also applauded the great work the Chairman is doing in Ikorodu West LCDA, they also requested for road infrastructures, likewise Hospital which land has been provided, among others.

Hon. Sulaimon Kazeem Olanrewaju, has reassured the stakeholders that all matters raised during the  stakeholders meeting will be promptly addressed.
