
Wasiu Haruna-Ishola, Qdot, Candy Bleakz, and other talented artistes thrilled the audience with electrifying performances at the opening of the Ikosi-Isheri Ketu Magodo Annual Cultural Carnival, setting the tone for a vibrant celebration of culture, unity, and heritage. The day 1 event was a success, held on October 26, 2024, brought together members of the community, dignitaries, and music lovers alike, showcasing the rich cultural diversity of Ikosi-Isheri. With its theme “Our Heritage, Our Pride: A Celebration of Culture and Unity,” the carnival an unforgettable experience for thousands of attendees, and the opening night’s spectacular performances did not disappoint.
The First Lady of Lagos State, Dr. Claudiana Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu commended the Mayoress of Ikosi-Isheri LCDA, Princess Samiat Abolanle Bada for the laudable annual programme aimed at promoting peaceful co-existence and the rich cultural heritage of the people of Ikosi-Isheri Local Council Development Area (LCDA) and Lagos State.
Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State, emphasized the importance of unity and support. He noted that events like this bring all tribes together, showcasing the diversity of cultures in Nigeria.
In her speech, Princess Samiat Abolanle Bada, Mayoress of Ikosi-Isheri LCDA acknowledged the invaluable support of First Lady of Lagos State, Dr. (Mrs.) Claudiana Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, who served as the Face of this year’s carnival. She also expressed gratitude to Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu for his unwavering commitment to the community’s growth and development. Senator Adetokunbo Mukhail Abiru and traditional rulers were also recognized for their continued involvement and support.
The Mayoress emphasized the economic importance of local businesses, urging everyone to rally behind entrepreneurs to create jobs and drive growth. She encouraged attendees to embrace the carnival’s spirit to forge stronger collaborations and connections, highlighting that “each dance step, each melody sung, is a testament to what we can achieve together”
She concluded her remarks by extending heartfelt thanks to attendees for participating in the celebration. She acknowledged the crucial roles of fellow public servants, party leaders, and stakeholders in the community’s journey, emphasizing that their collective efforts will be measured by the positive impact created.
In his address, Pastor Ojelabi stressed that unity is crucial, especially after elections. “When you elect someone to represent you, it’s not the end of the business. You must extend support to that person to enable them to exert themselves, irrespective of crises or challenges,” he said.
He emphasized that this is the time for Nigerians to come together to make a positive impact on the development of local governments, states, and the country as a whole. The APC chairman proudly stated that the event symbolizes what his party stands for.
Similarly, while assuring aspirants of free and fair primaries in the upcoming Local Government elections, Pastor Ojelabi emphasized the need for candidates to work with the party leadership and be prepared to match the performance of outgoing chairmen.
The carnival created an atmosphere of fun for residents and further strengthened a unified and harmonious environment.
