The Youth Assembly of Nigeria (YAN) has successfully concluded its 2024 National Convention, culminating in the election of Comrade Famuyibo Oluwasegun of Ekiti State as the National Speaker for the 4th Assembly. The closely contested election saw Famuyibo secure 79 votes, defeating Comrade Charles Ezeanikwe of Anambra State and Comrade Sotonye Ekine of Rivers State.

Other key positions filled in the new national leadership of YAN include:

• Deputy National Speaker: Umar Bala Babayaro, Kaduna State
• Majority Leader: Sadiq Abubakar, Borno State
• Deputy Majority Leader: Charles Ezeanikwe, Anambra State
• National Chief Whip: Raymond Sylvanus, Cross River State
• National Minority Leader: Jennifer Ornguga, Benue State
• Diaspora Ambassador: Jude Chinonso

During a post-election address at Agura Hotel in Abuja, Famuyibo described his victory as a pivotal moment for advancing youth development across Nigeria. He attributed his success to the support he received from Dr. Bello Matawalle, Minister of State for Defence and former Governor of Zamfara State. Famuyibo expressed profound gratitude, acknowledging Matawalle as a “prominent factor” in his journey, providing critical mentorship and support.

“My mentor, His Excellency Dr. Matawalle, extended an unalloyed hand of leadership, direction and support to me, making this victory a reality,” Famuyibo remarked.

Famuyibo also expressed appreciation for the YAN Board of Trustees, the Convention Planning Committee and the delegates who entrusted him with the leadership of the 4th Assembly. He pledged to work diligently for the advancement of Nigerian youths.

Hon. Gt.C Samuel, Acting Chairman of the YAN Board of Trustees, offered his congratulations to the newly elected leaders. He encouraged them to represent Nigerian youths with integrity and to apply strategic thinking as they prepare for the inauguration of the 4th Assembly.

Famuyibo Oluwasegun will succeed Rt. Hon. Shuaibu Sani, the outgoing National Speaker, who served with distinction. The newly elected leadership is expected to drive YAN’s mission forward, advocating for youth empowerment and national unity in Nigeria.
