… Urges Home Grown Farming for Food Security, Youth Development

The Lagos State House of Assembly member representing Somolu Constituency 01, Hon. Abiodun Abimbola Orekoya, empowered his constituents at his inaugural Stakeholders’ Meeting, held at the Banquet Hall of the newly built Somolu Local Government Council Secretariat.
In his welcome address, the Lawmaker expressed heartfelt gratitude for the unwavering support of all. He provided comprehensive accounts of his achievements over the past 15 months in office, which include Sponsoring of Bills, Oversight Functions, Youth Engagements, Infrastructural Develops, Health Scheme, Sport Initiatives, Education, Job Opportunities and Social Welfare.
He urged the citizens to pray for the growth of our Nation and to support President Asiwaju Bola Tinubu in his renewed hope agenda for massive success. Under the leadership of Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, the Lawmaker pleaded to the constituents, especially the youth, to embrace home grown farming so as to achieve the objectives of food security and youth participation as themed for the Stakeholders Forum across the 40 Constituencies in the State.
The Council Chairman of Somolu Local Government, Hon. AbdulHamed Salawu, applauded the State Legislator for his giant strides, stressing that his efforts in alleviating the challenges at the grassroot complement the development at the Local Government. Following the discussion of food security, the Chairman noted that his Administration has also disbursed over 100 Million Naira to traders and indigent, to positively make impacts in their lives and highlighted his community projects, including the construction of over 60 roads, Welfare Packages, Health Care, and expressed readiness for the upcoming disbursement of additional 50 million Naira to further support the people. He encouraged the beneficiaries to make the best use of the equipments provided to them by Hon. Abiodun Orekoya.
The Facilitator from the Ministry of Agriculture and Food System, Mrs Omodunbi, enlightened all attendees on the importance of food security with the four key components, Availability, Access, Utilization and Stability. She also made mentioned of supervised youth innovations, opportunities in the sector and advised Somolu youths to follow suit. Exchange of questions and answers segment was also captured before the empowerment programme proper and were centered around the consistency of Gov. Sanwo-Olu’s Ounje Eko Programme, Procurement of land for diversification, Support for Somolu farmers, Intensive training; Price and Quality controls; Reduction of sudden increased of school and boarding fees and Creation of Somolu Youth Centre.
The Lagos State APC Party Chairman, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi also praised Hon. Orekoya for his thoughtful initiative and dedication towards enhancing the lives of his constituents. He spoke on the ongoing reforms in the country, encouraging beneficiaries to maximize the opportunities presented to them.
The MC, Mr Adetola Orekoya, ensured the host seized the moment to give back to the constituents, as he disbursed 10 Vulcanizing Machines, 10 Grinding machines, 10 Sewing machines, 10 Hair Dryers to Artisans, while Section A of 60 Market Women and Men received the sum of 50 thousand naira (#50,000) each; and Section B of 20 traders took home’ Big Umbrellas (for visibility, durability and safety of their trades) with the sum of 50 thousand naira (#50,000) respectively to grow their businesses and as a boost to their livelihoods. Before closure, constituents among the beneficiaries and residents thanked the host for his gesture.

Koya Ola-Sodipe joined the host to present the empowerment items to the beneficiaries.
