In an effort to enhance environmental sustainability and beautify Lagos, the Lagos State Parks and Gardens Agency (LASPARK), Lagos State Ferry Services (LAGFERRY), and Lagos State Coconut Development Authority (LASCODA) on October 3, 2024, planted 57 trees, comprising 20 coconut trees, queen’s palms, shrubs, flowering plants, and other species, at the LAGFERRY Terminal in Amuwo Odofin.

Lagos State Ferry Services (LAGFERRY) Managing Director, Hon. Abdoulbaq Ladi Balogun, emphasized the importance of environmental sustainability. He highlighted LAGFERRY’s role in Governor Sanwo-Olu’s THEMES Plus agenda, specifically in Traffic Management and Transportation.

Balogun stressed the collaboration between LAGFERRY and LASPARK to create a greener environment through tree planting at the Mile 2 premises. He noted that LAGFERRY’s sustainability department will maintain the trees, inviting guests to witness their growth.

He urged the public to join the initiative, emphasizing the benefits of tree planting for the environment, climate change mitigation, and future generations.

Lagos State Parks and Gardens Agency (LASPARK) General Manager, Adetoun Popoola, said the collaboration with Lagos State Ferry Services (LAGFERRY) and other Government agencies to achieve the goal. She emphasized the importance of inter-agency cooperation in ensuring the success of the initiative.

The campaign includes a partnership with the Lagos State Coconut Development Authority to plant 20 coconut trees. Adetoun Popoola stressed the significance of coconut trees to Lagos, highlighting their potential to boost coconut production in Nigeria and Lagos.

She emphasized the need for proper maintenance to ensure the survival of the planted trees. She noted that LASPARK would provide adequate water and care to guarantee the trees’ growth.

Adetoun Popoola urged Lagos residents to participate in tree planting, stressing its benefits for the environment and beautification of Lagos.

Damilola Emmanuel, General Manager of LASWA, congratulated LAGFERRY and LASPARK on the initiative. He emphasized the importance of tree planting, noting that trees save lives and are crucial to environmental sustainability.

He noted that the partnership demonstrates a commitment to keeping the environment clean and safe. He expressed delight at LAGFERRY’s provision of space for the tree planting exercise, a crucial step towards achieving LASPARK’s environmental goals.

The Chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) Amuwo Odofin Branch, Ajele Abayomi applauded LAGFERRY and LASPARK for their thoughtfulness, also called on LASPARK to extend the gesture to parks within the union’s jurisdiction, ensuring a comprehensive environmental makeover.

Other heads of agencies in Lagos State who participated in the tree-planting event include Mrs. Adekanbi Adenike (General Manager, LASIAMA), Fatai Onafowote (Director-General, Lagos State Public Procurement Agency), Bilikiss Adebiyi (General Manager, LASRRA), Oluwadamilola Emmanuel (General Manager, LASWA), Babalola Obilana (Director-General, Lagos State Pension Commission), Olumuyiwa Oshin (Executive Director, Lagos State Pension Commission), and Doyin Akinyanju (Managing Director, IBILE Oil and Gas).
