The Lagos State Government has taken significant strides in transforming the education sector, introducing innovative programs to enhance teaching and learning. Hon. Owolabi Falana, Permanent Board Member of the Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board (LASUBEB), highlighted these initiatives at the 6th edition of the Ikorodu Division Youth Summit.

Falana emphasized that the Eko Excel program, launched in 2019, has been instrumental in integrating technology into the teaching and learning process. “What that means is that before, teachers were always generating what I call lesson notes manually. But right now, they make use of technology,” he explained.

He noted that this shift has created a more tech-savvy basic education ecosystem, where both teachers and pupils are proficient in using digital tools.

Falana also highlighted the LASUBEB’s Agricultural program, introduced in schools since 2021. “We started a pilot scheme in our schools, where pupils can learn how to do fish pond, poultry, and other agricultural-related activities,” he stated.

He pointed out that the program aims to promote self-sufficiency and knowledge sharing among peers, equipping students with essential life skills.

Regarding the Strengthening Mathematics and Sciences Education (SMASE) program, He noted that it trains students in technology and awards prizes for excellence. “We invite pupils from our schools to come for exhibitions, and we give them prizes and awards,” he said.

He further emphasized that the Lagos State Government is committed to showcasing the abilities of its young ones and scaling up their knowledge. “We just started this academic session, and within the next one year, we have a lot of other programs in the pipeline that will showcase the abilities of these young ones,” Falana assured.
