By Vol. Chief Olukayode Odunuga, President, Humanitarian Voluntary Association for Community Development (HUVACOD)

As Edo State stands on the threshold of its gubernatorial election, HUVACOD joins forces with like-minded organizations to urge Nigerian youths, particularly those in Edo State, to demonstrate unwavering responsibility and patriotism by renouncing violence and embracing peace throughout the election period.

We acknowledge the pivotal role youths play in shaping Nigeria’s future and are deeply concerned about the potential for electoral violence, often fueled by young people manipulated by unscrupulous individuals.

Key Appeal Areas
– Reject Violence: No political ambition justifies harm to life or well-being. Violence erodes communities and democracy.
– Promote Peaceful Participation: Exercise your right to vote peacefully and encourage peers to do the same.
– Collaborate with Security Agencies: Ensure a safe environment by reporting suspicious activities.
– Engage in Dialogue, Not Conflict: Constructive dialogue over violence or intimidation.

We commend the recent signing of a peace accord by 14 political parties and candidates, pledging to ensure a violence-free poll. This is a significant step towards a peaceful election.

The Power of Peaceful Elections
A peaceful election reflects a healthy democracy, allowing for:
– Free and fair representation
– Unity and progress
– National stability and growth

HUVACOD’s Commitment
Our organization remains dedicated to fostering national unity, pledging support for the Inspector General of Police’s efforts to ensure adequate security and safety measures.

By embracing peace, our generation can contribute to a more secure and prosperous Nigeria.
