
Ikorodu North LCDA and Speed Up Lagos, empowered residents through skill acquisition program designed to equip the next generation with essential skills for success.
The training includes; Production of home essential items, Baking, catering, and drinks, Make-up and Gele styling, Fashion design and leather work, Smart phone and digital technology, Production of ladies’ wigs, Event decorations, and Cutting and production of nylon.
In his speech, Builder Deola Banjo, Executive Chairman Ikorodu North LCDA, represented by Hon. Niyi Odugbesi SLG of the Local Government he said ‘Speed Up Lagos’ initiative is a testament to Lagos State Government’s commitment to empowering our youth with the skills and knowledge required to thrive in today’s fast-paced world”.
During the two-week intensive training, students acquired skills in different fields, these skills will enable graduates to start their own businesses, enhance their employability, contribute to local economic growth, and improve their standard of living.
The ‘Speed Up Lagos’ initiative is a testament to Lagos State Government’s commitment to empowering our youth with the skills and knowledge required to thrive in today’s fast-paced world,” Banjo said.

Banjo emphasized that skills alone are not enough, stressing the importance of guidance from experienced mentors and connections through strategic networking. Mentorship and networking provide valuable insights, access to resources, support systems, and doors to new markets.
To the graduates, Banjo urged:
– Seek out mentors for guidance
– Attend industry events and conferences
– Join professional associations and networks
– Leverage social media platforms for connections
Banjo thanked partners, facilitators, and the Governor of Lagos State for supporting initiatives like “Speed Up Lagos.” The LCDA reaffirmed its commitment to:
1. Continuously investing in human capital development
2. Fostering entrepreneurship and job creation
3. Enhancing community engagement and participation
“As you receive your certificates, remember that this is just the beginning. Your potential is limitless, and your impact will be felt. Stay connected, stay focused, and stay committed to excellence. Congratulations, graduates!” Banjo concluded.
Speed Up Lagos initiative, Director Princess Oluwagbemisola Ajetunmobi thanked Builder Banjo for his support. She emphasized the importance of utilizing the training.
Ajetunmobi stressed that beneficiaries should take their businesses seriously, leveraging affordable loans from the Lagos State Government, which She explained the loan terms:
– ₦500,000 loan: ₦45,000 monthly payment, ₦40,000 total interest over 12 months
– ₦200,000 loan: ₦18,000 monthly payment, ₦16,000 total interest over 12 months
She encouraged beneficiaries to access these loans, repay diligently, and expand their businesses.
“Your business is very important to me,” Ajetunmobi said. “Don’t take this opportunity lightly. Take the bull by its horns and move forward.”
The “Speed Up Lagos” initiative aims to empower entrepreneurs with essential skills and financial support for success.
The Director of Speed Up Lagos, Princess Oluwagbemisola Ajetunmobi, urged beneficiaries to utilize training and affordable loans from the Lagos State Government to grow their businesses. She explained loan terms and encouraged diligent repayment and business expansion.
Hon. Basirat Babatunde, Supervisor for Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Ikorodu North LCDA represented by Jamiat Adewunmi, urged beneficiaries to utilize their newly acquired skills to start businesses and become employers of labor. “Make good use of what you have learned so far. Create opportunities for yourself and others,” she emphasized.
Babatunde reiterated the LCDA’s commitment to economic empowerment for women and wellness initiatives. “This program is a testament to our dedication to empowering women and reducing poverty in our community,” Babatunde said.
Hon. Niran Adeyemi, Deputy Leader Ikorodu North LCDA, applauded the “Speed Up Lagos” initiative, calling it a life-changing opportunity for participants. He emphasized the importance of self-employment, citing Nigeria’s challenging job market.
Adeyemi noted that nations like China have thrived by focusing on trade and entrepreneurship. He encouraged participants to capitalize on their new skills, producing goods and making profits, rather than joining the ranks of complainers. “Those who are really engaged and busy in their work, producing and selling their products, cannot join those who are just complaining,” Adeyemi said.
He emphasized that this practical education is the key to self-employment and financial independence. “This is the education we are talking about, not just speaking English and holding a certificate, but being self-employed and empowered to succeed.”
Prince Niran Ogunbanwo, CDC Chairman, and HOD WAPA, Ikorodu North LCDA, praised the students’ dedication and enthusiasm. “Your attentiveness is commendable. We urge you to utilize the skills acquired to create solutions to community challenges and become employers of labor.
