In a bid to reduce poverty and unemployment, Ikosi-Isheri LCDA partnered with Speed Up Lagos to empower residents with vocational skills.

The initiative, which is part of the council’s efforts to promote economic growth and development, has provided training in various skills such as:

– Home essentials production
– Baking and catering
– Fashion design
– Smartphone digital technology
– Event decoration
– Leather works
– Gele tying
– Wig making etc.

Mayoress of Ikosi Isheri LCDA, Princess Samiat Abolanle Bada, commended the beneficiaries of the Skills Acquisition Programme.

In her address, Princess Bada expressed joy and honor in celebrating the significant milestone achieved by the beneficiaries, who have successfully completed training in various skills, including home essentials production, baking, catering, fashion design, and smartphone digital technology.

She emphasized the dedication, hard work, and perseverance required to complete the program, urging the graduates to harness their talents and become entrepreneurs, leaders, and innovators that the community needs.

Princess Samiat Bada, Mayoress of Ikosi-Isheri LCDA, encouraged beneficiaries of the vocational training program to share their knowledge with others, promoting a culture of skill-sharing within the community.

Princess Bada also extended gratitude to Speed-Up Lagos Anti-Poverty Squad for their support and commitment to combating poverty and uplifting lives in Ikosi Isheri LCDA.

Princess Oluwagbemisola Ajetunmobi, Director of Speed Up Lagos, commended the success of the initiative’s two-week skills training program.

She expressed gratitude to Princess Samiat Bada, Mayoress of Ikosi-Isheri LCDA, for embracing the program and providing necessary support. She emphasized the importance of breaking down skills into manageable components, allowing beneficiaries to focus on one area of interest.

The initiative, which plans to expand to all Local Governments and LCDAs in Lagos, aims to contribute to the state’s growth and development. Princess Ajetunmobi acknowledged the significant investment of time and resources by the Lagos State Government, emphasizing the value of their support.

Wale-Ola Bello, Supervisor for Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Ikosi-Isheri LCDA, praised the initiative, saying it has been a wonderful experience for the participants. “The beneficiaries were excited, happy, and dedicated, arriving early for their classes and eager to learn,” she noted.

The program, led by Mayoress Samiat Bada, aimed to equip women and young people with skills in various areas, including home essentials production, baking, catering, fashion design, and smartphone digital technology.

Bello advised the participants to practice their newfound skills, start small businesses, and grow them into sustainable ventures that can support themselves and their families.

Mrs. Funke Adeoye, a beneficiary of the baking and catering training program shared her inspiring story of the training so far.

Mrs. Adeoye, who previously had no experience in baking and catering, now boasts expertise in making cakes, pastries, and various dishes.

“I’m grateful for this opportunity to learn baking and catering skills,” she said. “This training has given me the confidence to start my own small business and provide for my family.”

Mrs. Adeoye expressed her appreciation to Mayoress Samiat Bada and Speed Up Lagos, emphasizing the positive impact of the program on her life. She is eager to share her newfound knowledge with others and contribute to the growth of her community.

Olanrewaju Salamot, a beneficiary of the makeup and gele tying training, expressed her gratitude to Mayoress Samiat Bada for the opportunity. “I couldn’t tie gele or do my makeup before, but now I can, and I’ll be doing it for my friends in school and eventually becoming a professional,” she said.

Nkechi Adeniran Brown, another beneficiary, had always desired to learn gele tying and makeup. “I’ve learned more than average, and after this training, I’ll continue learning on YouTube. I appreciate the Mayoress, who has shown that her heart is truly with her community,” she said.
