Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, flagged off the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) Economic Empowerment Programme, disbursing a N50,000 business recapitalization grant to 1,000 petty traders in Asaba, Delta State. This initiative aims to support women petty traders nationwide, with 37,000 beneficiaries receiving a total of N1,850,000,000.
The programme, launched on August 22, 2024, is part of RHI’s economic empowerment objective, which has consistently delivered support to women and youth across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones. Senator Tinubu emphasized the importance of economic empowerment for women, stating it is both a moral and strategic imperative.
Delta State Governor, Sherriff Oborevwori, represented by his wife, Tobore Oborevwori, applauded the initiative and announced an additional N50,000 grant from the state government to further empower the beneficiaries.
The RHI Economic Empowerment Programme is a nationwide initiative, with simultaneous events held across the country. Each beneficiary received N50,000 as a business recapitalization grant, aimed at helping petty traders overcome business challenges, create jobs, and expand the informal sector’s contributions to the national economy.
This programme demonstrates the First Lady’s commitment to supporting women and promoting economic growth, solidifying her reputation as a champion of women’s empowerment.
