In a groundbreaking initiative, the Surulere Local Government, in collaboration with UB40 and Starliner, hosted the inaugural “Lere Funathon” – a 10km race that combined fun and marathon elements. The Lagos State Sports Commission also rendered its support and recognition. The competition, held on a sunny day in Surulere, Lagos, attracted a large audience of enthusiastic participants and spectators.

The “Lere Funathon” saw male and female winners take home a whopping 1 million naira each, with the second-place winners receiving 500,000 naira each, and the third-place winners getting 250,000 naira each. The cash prizes were awarded to recognize and reward the outstanding achievements of the participants.

In his address, Hon. Bamidele Sulaimon, Executive Chairman of Surulere Local Government, expressed his delight at the success of the event. “Today, we gather to witness a historic moment in our local government. The ‘Lere Funathon’ is more than just a race; it’s a celebration of our community’s spirit and resilience. I Congratulate all participants and winners, and I thank our partners, UB40 and Starliner, for their support. We will continue to promote initiatives that foster unity and development in Surulere.”

The “Lere Funathon” stood out from traditional marathon events, offering a mix of entertainment and competition. Participants enjoyed music, dance, and refreshments along the race route, making the experience an unforgettable one.
