
All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN) Ikorodu North LCDA chapter marked a new chapter in its journey with the inauguration of its newly elected Executives. The ceremony, which took place today, 7th of August, saw the official handing over of leadership to the new team, amidst calls for unity and support from stakeholders.
Dr. Nurudeen Yekinni Agbaje, Special Adviser to the Governor on Rural Development and Chieftaincy Affairs represented by Mrs. Tawakalitu Kosoko, Director Rural, Applauded the leadership of AFAN Ikorodu North LCDA.
“We recognize that without you, we wouldn’t be where we are today,” Kosoko said. “We need to do more, as things are not going as planned.” She assured farmers that the Government is working to improve its approach to Agriculture, prioritizing community engagement and input.
Kosoko charged the new AFAN executives to increase farm produce, stating, “We’re now in an era where we eat what we plant.” She emphasized collaboration between the Ministry of Local Government, Ministry of Agriculture, and farmers, saying, “The ministry of local government is closest to the farmers, just like the Ministry of Agriculture.”
Asiwaju Wale Ogunbela, Supervisor for Agriculture in Ikorodu North LCDA, applauded the outgoing AFAN Executives for their exceptional performance in Agriculture in Ikorodu North LCDA. “The last executive did wonderfully well in every area of agriculture,” he said. “We have won several awards, and I applaud their achievements.”
Ogunbela Congratulated the outgoing chairman for laying a solid foundation for the organization and encouraged the new executives to build upon this success. He commended the collaborative efforts between the executive committee, members, local government, and partners, stating, “This cooperation has enabled us to achieve great things.”
On behalf of Builder Deola Banjo, Executive Chairman of Ikorodu North LCDA, Ogunbela Congratulated the new Executives of AFAN, wishing them success in their new roles.
Agbayewa Shakiru, Deputy Chairman of the All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN) Lagos State chapter, emphasized the importance of farming for food security and self-sufficiency. He encouraged everyone to engage in farming, no matter how small, even if it’s just in their backyard.
“Grow what you eat,” Shakiru said, stressing the need for individuals to take control of their food production. He also addressed the new executives of AFAN, urging them to showcase their work regularly.
“There is nothing bad if you pick a day in a month to showcase your work,” Shakiru said, encouraging the executives to share their achievements and progress with the community. This, he believes, will help to promote farming and inspire others to follow suit.
Mr. Azeez Odubena, Head of Agriculture at Ikorodu North LCDA, congratulated the newly inaugurated executives of the All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN) Ikorodu North LCDA chapter. He emphasized the importance of supporting the new leadership, stating, “We have to give them the necessary support, they are there to represent you, and you should give them the moral support, all the support that they need.”
Odubena commended the peaceful election process, saying, “We have all started well, the election was peaceful, that is a very good start. And that shows you are united.” He encouraged members to work with the new Executives, urging them to “walk with the agenda” and support the Administration’s success.
The HOD Agriculture also pleaded with the former executive members to guide and work with the new team, ensuring a smooth transition and a successful administration.
In her acceptance speech, newly inaugurated Chairman of the All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN) Ikorodu North Local Council Development Area chapter, Titilayo Azeez, expressed deep honor and gratitude for the privilege to serve.
Azeez acknowledged the significance of agriculture, stating, “Agriculture is more than just a profession; it is the backbone of our society, sustaining communities and nurturing future generations.”
She extended heartfelt gratitude to Almighty God, the leadership of State AFAN, and other stakeholders for their support. Azeez pledged to work collaboratively to overcome challenges and drive the sector to new heights.
Concluding her speech, Azeez thanked everyone for the incredible honor and called for collective action to grow, nourish, and sustain society, contributing to the growth of AFAN. She ended with a blessing, saying, “God bless AFAN Ikorodu North Local Council Development Area, God bless AFAN Lagos State, and God bless you all.”
