Lagos residents turn out in large numbers for the fourth edition of the “Keep Fit Lagos”, marking a successful milestone in the initiative’s efforts to promote wellness and healthy lifestyles.

Damilare Orimoloye, Senior Special Assistant to Governor Sanwo-Olu on Sports, expressed delight at the massive turnout for the fourth edition of the “Keep Fit Lagos” program, aimed at promoting wellness and healthy lifestyles among Lagos residents.

Orimoloye noted that the program has been impressive so far, with increasing numbers of participants, highlighting the need for proper coordination and planning to accommodate the growing demand. He emphasized the importance of knowing one’s health status, stating that it is crucial to take the next steps towards ensuring overall well-being.

The program, which includes health checks and fitness activities, aims to encourage Lagosians to prioritize their physical and mental health. Orimoloye acknowledged that the current equipment and resources are limited, but promised to increase them for future editions to accommodate the growing number of participants.

Dr. Oluwatoni Adeyemi, SSA on health to the Governor, emphasized the importance of regular exercise, citing the World Health Organization’s recommendation of at least 30 minutes of physical activity, five times a week. She acknowledged the challenges of Lagos’ busy lifestyle but encouraged citizens to prioritize exercise to reduce the risk of chronic diseases, such as hypertension and diabetes, which are increasingly affecting young people.

The “Keep Fit Lagos” initiative aims to make exercise accessible and enjoyable, promoting emotional and mental well-being while reducing the incidence of non-communicable diseases. By imbibing exercise into daily routines, participants can experience significant health benefits, according to Dr. Adeyemi.

Jubril Gawat, Senior Special Assistant (SSA) on New Media, applauded the “Keep Fit Lagos” initiative for its massive turnout, citing it as a testament to its growing popularity. Gawat, who has attended previous editions, noted that the program offers a unique opportunity for participants to check their health status, relax, and engage in fitness activities.

The SSA highlighted the inclusive nature of the initiative, pointing out that individuals of all ages, from kids to the elderly, are participating. Gawat also emphasized the networking benefits, as people from diverse fields come together.

Gawat commended the Lagos State Sports Commission and the SSA on Sports for this initiative, urging them to continue their good work.

Dr. Muritala Seriki, Lagos APC Youth Leader, described the “Keep Fit Lagos” initiative as a fantastic opportunity for young people to thrive, get fit, and network. He commended the initiative for promoting a healthy lifestyle in Lagos and fostering unity among youths from diverse backgrounds.

Seriki expressed his gratitude to Governor Sanwo-Olu and the Senior Special Assistant on Sports, Mr. Damilare Orimoloye, for coming up with such initiative, which he believes will have a positive impact on the state’s youth population.

Adeola Adewunmi, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Tertiary Education, applauded the “Keep Fit Lagos” initiative, saying it is a great initiative that keeps youths busy and engaged. He expressed his commitment to supporting the program, ensuring its continuation, and noted that the turnout has been “really impressive”.

Alabi Opeyemi, Senior Special Assistant to Governor Sanwo-Olu on Youth Mobilization, highlighted the crucial role of fitness in shaping the lives of young people. Opeyemi emphasized that fitness plays an essential part in youth development, contributing to the building of a coordinated society.
